Excited to share findings from my PhD work published in @AJCNutrition! As Dr. Hennigar noted in his editorial—“Findings from this study reframe how we think about dietary Fe requirements and build evidence for more precise Fe intake and supplementation guidelines”. Links below!👇

🥗Patients can respond very differently to identical dietary patterns, and genetics may help explain these discrepancies, according to research presented at #NUTRITION2026. @nutritionorg 🔗Read more, including insight from lead researcher @AlexaBarad: vist.ly/5czrm

Can a low-carb diet raise your cholesterol? New research presented at #Nutrition2026 suggests the answer may depend, in part, on your genes: hubs.la/Q04qMw490 #cholesterol #PrecisionNutrition

It is a major PhD project of @YitangS. I am very excited to see this work out. I learned so much about the genetics of circulating fatty acids. This is a solid foundation for more research to come regarding gene-diet interactions for omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids.
The latest @HGGAdvances article from @yekaixiong & colleagues reports the results of a genome-wide association study that identifies additional genetic loci for 19 circulating fatty acid traits in UK Biobank participants of European ancestry: cell.com/hgg-advances/fullte… #ASHG

Fortunate to contribute to this edition of @AnnualReviews and the timing couldn't be more serendipitous as nutrition is at the forefront of many folks' minds and there is active conversations about what future Dietary Guidelines should look like. In this review, I detail a history of nutritional guidance in the USA, how it evolved over time and the factors that contributed to its evolution. My hope is that the review is both useful to newcomers to the field as well as experts and that it can inform productive conversations about what the future of nutrition guidance should look like. annualreviews.org/content/jo…

A healthy lifestyle free of smoking and full of aerobic activity not only reduces the overall risk of heart disease but also the chances of dying from your first event, should you have one. Project led by my gifted mentee @estella_chen_
About 1:3 women develop cardiovascular disease. A healthy lifestyle protects those who develop coronary heart disease from death at initial presentation. ow.ly/P9MX50V7Wwx @tassimes

New prospective cohort in @AJCNutrition relevant to the seed oil debates: adipose linoleic acid (% total fatty acids; marker of longer term intake) in the Diet Cancer and Health danish cohort is inversely related to all cause morality (21yr follow up). Arachidonic acid levels tended to be associated with increased risk. As expected, high adipose linoleic acid is related to high vegetable oil intake. Linoleic acid levels & vegetable oil intake were not correlated with adipose arachidonic acid levels. Somewhat limited by only a single baseline biopsy but nevertheless supportive of other cohorts using measures of linoleic acid intake (eg RBC linoleic) as well as feeding trials that the simplistic model of high linoleic intake -> arachidonic acid enrichment in membranes -> inflammation/disease is too simplistic. ajcn.nutrition.org/article/S…
