After 25 years in 1 pulpit, what would I tell a young preacher? A 🧵(in no particular order): 1) Ignore the numbers and connect with your people. Don’t obsess about growth. Don’t apologize for who isn’t there when your friends visit. Minister to what’s in front of you. 👇 1/11

Three sets of compound words (syn-) in Ephesians. Because Christ was raised (1:20), we are (1) co-raised w/him and (2) co-built together into a dwelling for God. The third set is a tight-clustered inward intensification in the key of mystery, rather than new content.

Researchers in religion/theo/biblical studies are using these weeks to read for, write or finish conference papers (ETS/SBL/AAR, etc.). That can be a prayer request. We pray for clarity. We pray for wisdom as we accommodate other life priorities. We pray for focus & patience.

I’ve been reading a lot of literary theory for my PhD. It still amazes me how poetically people describe functions of language and texts without providing evidence/methods. At the same time, I’m reminded that… I’m reading literary theory🤷🏻‍♂️ I’m… just grateful I understand😅

In English teaching, we used “exit tickets.” These are prompted, reflective writing exercises asked from students at the end of the lesson. Students can correct/exchange each other’s and it can be cumulative low-grade assessment.
I would love to hear from teachers: What assignments have worked well for you in light of the rise of AI? I’ve been on sabbatical this Fall and return to teaching in the Spring. I typically have students write 2-page reflections on our readings (in the humanities), but I worry these are now too easy to complete with AI. I’ve considered handwritten or oral assignments, but I’m open to other ideas. What’s worked for you?

No te aisles. Bye!
