If anyone wants to get in touch I'm mostly in this place. My Twitter account mothballed for the time being.
No robust evidence for the status of European Tree Frogs (Hyla arborea) as a historically lost British species. Two threads: 1/25
This above cited study shows the importance of wetlands for the species (subject to infilling) and was carried out at Eyebrook and Rutland Water - both of these colonies have now collapsed in the last couple of years 7/
Could exceptional winter rainfall really cause birds to abandon colonies? Where might they have gone to? 9/

Funny how your day can change in an instant. Did a bit of seawatching at Pendine, Carmarthenshire but too cold. Got back to the car and a Desert Wheatear pops out from underneath it!

New research has investigated the motivations for dog owners keeping their pet on a lead in natural areas, and suggested the creation of dedicated dog exercise space as a solution: bit.ly/3PqLNve

The population of Gaza started no war, burned no families and took no hostages. Hamas members and individual Palestinians directly participating in October 7 did. This is a basic, really elemental, kindergarten-level moral idea: You don’t get to kill Bob because John killed Mike and oh that Bob lives next John so really he had it coming

Overnight tonight we will mobilise the single biggest change to buses in the UK for decades as the remaining half of services in GM come back under public control.
Thank you to everyone who has worked through Christmas and the New Year to make this happen.🙏🏻

The Glaucous Gull was on the beach at Holme when we arrived, but flushed repeatedly by these two dogs running around chasing all the birds off while their owners chatted oblivious nearby. No surprise, it flew off. Lots of dogs on the beach today, so a lot fewer waders too.
I'm done with every M*sk tweet being breaking news.

Snow now moving in. It will be snowing all night. 15-20cm expected. 2-4cm below 200m west of the Peak District.
Likely turning to freezing rain for a time after 11am. However a continued chance of heavy snow all day. – at Buxton, England

THREAD: In 2023, I received an envelope with no return address. Inside was a flash drive containing tens of 1000s of secret files.
It came from a vigilante with a tumultuous past, who'd done a years-long undercover operation. He didn’t tell the FBI or his family. He only told me

Visit @RSPBMinsmere marred by arrogant, entitled dog owners with dogs on trails signed (admittedly too small signs) ‘no dogs’. Both on North Wall ( free parking for a romp on the beach no doubt🙄). One was a slobbering off-lead Alsatian! I’m sick of this issue! @Natures_Voice

55 Years ago today was the last day of the Sheffield Victoria to Manchester Piccadilly via Woodhead electric passenger services.
The last train arrived at Sheffield Victoria at 0043am on the 5th January 1970 which was an enthusiasts special.
