Sabreen Alian, 23, is a mother from Gaza who lives with her husband and their eight-month-old daughter in an UNRWA school after being displaced around ten times during the genocide. Her family lost their home, land, and sources of income, and they were unable to retrieve any of their belongings before leaving. Sabreen is breastfeeding her daughter while struggling with malnutrition herself and relying on supplements to maintain her health. Her baby needs milk and diapers, which can cost up to $150 a week, and with winter approaching, one of Sabreen’s most urgent concerns is finding warm clothing to protect her daughter from the cold. Her husband is unemployed and also has to support his mother, who suffers from diabetes and high blood pressure, as well as his siblings. Sabreen holds a bachelor’s degree in Child Education, but she has been unable to obtain her diploma because of outstanding university fees and debts. She needs $200 to settle the debt and receive her degree, which she hopes will help her find work and support her family. For now, donations are their only source of income, and even basic necessities are difficult to afford. They do not have a flashlight and rely on their phone for light at night. Sabreen hopes to secure warm clothes for her baby, meet her family’s daily needs, and finally put her education to use so she can build a more stable future for her daughter.
