One of the genuine greatest things about Cristiano Ronaldo eventually retiring is that we will finally be free of 'fans' who only support Portugal because of Ronaldo. It will truly be a wonderful moment, a real burden lifted. Just a pity they started supporting Portugal at all.

🇵🇹 Benfica have now been involved in all of the Top 5 attended matches in 🟠 Europa League this season.
So tough on Torreense. They come within minutes of grabbing a sensational point against Premier League outfit Sunderland. Would have been one of the great Europa League results. Full credit to the Portuguese second division side, what an effort!
🟠 Europa League matchday 2: Torreense came close to the biggest surprise of the league phase
🇵🇹 Torreense 1–2 Sunderland 🏴
37' 1–0 V. Feltes
67' 1–1 J. Ahoka

Torreense started the match with a 2% chance of winning, led for half an hour and were favourites to win before Sunderland’s equaliser, then lost it in stoppage time.

GOALLLL TORREENSE!!!
OH MY WORD! What an unbelievable goal from centreback Volnei! Unbelievable!
Driving forward from defence, Volnei cuts inside and whips a stupendous strike into the top right corner. Stunning!
They couldn't could they?
Torreense 1-0 Sunderland.
Closing in on kickoff between Torreense & Sunderland. A very special match. The idea of Torreense, of the Portuguese second division, being in the Europa League was unthinkable a year ago. They are heavy underdogs & rightly so. Whatever the score, that they're here is remarkable.

Tonight, a second-division Portuguese side will face a Premier League club in the UEFA Europa League. 👀
This is the beauty of European football. 🫶
FT: Lens 0-2 Sporting CP.
Huge win for Sporting, away in France, to ensure they have 6 points from their opening two Champions League matches. Massive in Portugal's overall quest to catch France in the UEFA Coefficient too.
LASK at home next for Sporting. They'll be favourites.
The Premier League is so obviously the strongest league in the world, but this weekend perhaps more than any illustrates just how competitive it is too. Every game this weekend (bar Arsenal vs Leeds) feels like a genuine 50-50 clash. Gap between the best & worst feels so narrow.

First reaction of Portugal coach Jorge Jesus to Ronaldo's written statement: "I read the statement and now, like I do every day, I'm going to the Federation headquarters to work, to think about the Portuguese national team. I have nothing more to say."
The most important thing in Ronaldo's statement was the apology to the Portuguese people & his teammates. This was essential. There was a lot of hot air in the statement, but it takes a big person to apologise. His behaviour was unacceptable. And it seems he's recognised that.
He's tried to justify it. I don't think he did a good job at it. It was egocentric and essentially confirmed that he was upset to be asked to warm up and never get substituted on. That's not a reason to have a strop and abandon your team. But he's apologised. That's important.
If Cristiano Ronaldo is truly playing the 'either I go or Jorge Jesus goes' game, he's fighting a battle he simply cannot win. Portugal fans are fully behind JJ. It's a pathetic & petulant act which only serves to disrupt the Portugal national team. If it's true, good riddance.
Cristiano Ronaldo has issued an ultimatum for Portugal, saying he will not return to the national team while Jorge Jesus is the coach, sources have told ESPN.

Segundo o comunicado do Ronaldo "Não considera que esteja reformado da Seleção. Diz que, depois da suspensão e se estiver fisicamente bem, continuará disponível para jogar e competir por Portugal."

"I will deal with him" 😂
This guy is the Portuguese Ten Hag… wants to make a name for himself being the big tough guy by trying to humiliate @cristiano with shocking disrespect. I will deal with him (from a very well-informed perspective 👀 ) on tonight’s episode of Football Uncensored.
Jesus my man, I don't know if you've already forgotten but you are the literal manager of the Portugal national team - it is entirely your decision whether Ronaldo is allowed back into the Seleção. If he apologises for abandoning his teammates, maybe then briefly consider it.
FT: Portugal 2-1 Norway.
Four games. Four wins. Jorge Jesus makes the perfect start to life as Portugal manager. Despite all the noise and all the external distractions, Portugal qualify for the Nations League quarter finals with two games to spare. Jesus is the man.
Possibly seen the two best goals we'll see in the whole of the Nations League in the space of 5 minutes. Ajer for Norway, then Cancelo for Portugal. Absolutely stunning.
Portugal 1-1 Norway.
Incredible to believe that Cristiano Ronaldo was the Portugal captain only a matter of days ago. This is not the work of a captain. As truly extraordinary as he was as a player, he was clearly unsuitable for the role in his latter years.
