On this year's International #WomenInMathsDay we remember #PhilippaFawcett, the first woman to score the highest mark in Cambridge University's 1890 Mathematical Tripos, thus entering the feminist narrative on the capabilities and intellect of women, introduced by the suffrage.

Delighted to announce the winner of this month's #LMCBImageoftheMonth competition. Congratulations Hugh Ford (Chubb lab)! The image is titled "The transition to spatial order" and shows the signalling state and motion of Dicty as they self-organise into their "streaming state".

Why the panic over vaccination passports ? When I first went overseas in 1966 everyone HAD to have a certificate proving you’d been vaxxed for Smallpox and Yellow Fever. I didn’t see it as an attack on my freedom.

Some seriously silly questions about "why Victoria" at the presser right now. Virus transmission is a highly stochastic (i.e. random) process. This type of rapid cluster growth was inevitable. That it has occurred here in Victoria is pure chance. Contact tracing efforts amazing.

I periodically show this graph to promotion committees. Divide the average citations of papers in life science by a denominator > 6 to get something comparable to citations in mathematics. (From IMU/ICIAM/IMS “Citation Statistics” p.8)
