Today we swore in a new officer. Officer Connor McKinstry comes to us from Colorado. He was previously certified as a peace officer so that will shorten his training time considerably. Please join us in welcoming Officer McKinstry to the city and to the Ames Police Department.
National Night Out will proceed as planned at Ames Middle School. The forecast is giving us a nice break in the rain, and we are excited to see everyone there!
A little drizzle won't stop us from having a great evening. We may get a bit wet, but we definitely won't melt!
We're keeping a close eye on the weather for tonight's event. We plan to make a final decision at 3:00 p.m. on whether we'll move to our indoor backup plan. Regardless there will be shoes tonight!
Please keep an eye on our social media for updates & hope the rain stays away!
We're just under two weeks away from the APBA Golf Classic on August 1 at Veenker Memorial Golf Course, and we're still accepting team registrations!

Many bikes are being loaded up today and headed west to Onawa, IA for the start of RAGBRAI. We can expect to see bikes in our area on July 22nd as the overnight stop is in Boone on Tuesday night before rolling into Marshalltown. Keep your eyes on the road #GTSB
Please read the article in the Trib today about HOST. and what they have been doing to serve some of Ames's most vulnerable and unhoused community members. HOST has successfully housed over 30 individuals, families and partners.

National Police Week reminds us of the incredible individuals who choose a life of service. We honor the officers who gave everything in the line of duty, and we celebrate the strength and commitment of those who continue to protect our community.
To our Ames Police Officers — and to the families who stand behind them — thank you for showing up, for caring, and for keeping Ames safe.

Special congratulations to Officer Roose for posting some impressive numbers on the physical standards and joining the 300 point club. Outstanding.
Congrats to Officers Kehm, McDonough and Roose on graduating from the 325th class of the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy.
