An inordinately joyful day celebrating the ordination of Hannah my wonderful colleague and curate as priest. ‘Thank God, carefully and wonderingly, for privileges and every experience of his goodness. Thankfulness is a soil in which pride does not easily grow.’ (Michael Ramsey)

All very lovely last weekend at Jesus Church, Troutbeck for the marriage of Imogen and James. 'But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way...' (1 Corinthians 12.31) @churchofengland @CarlisleDiocese

The Church does not exist for herself, but to lead every person to an encounter with the Lord. It is therefore not enough to ask whether an activity is well organized, well attended, or has been running for many years. We must ask whether it truly leads people to Christ and brings the Gospel into contact with the concrete realities of people’s lives.

According to Bede, the early Anglo-Saxon name for September was Haligmonað, 'holy month' - perhaps because of rituals celebrating the end of harvest, or because it's the month of the autumnal equinox, when summer gives way to the dark half of the year.

'Cause I am a seeker and you are a keeper You are a leader, won't you show me the way? ‘The Seeker’ by Dolly Parton
‘But perhaps even more remarkable than the profusion of accolades and awards was Ms. Parton’s unstinting generosity of spirit — her commitment, born of deep religious convictions and an immense heart, to seeing the humanity in all people.’ nytimes.com/2026/08/25/arts/…

RIP @DollyParton, a woman of deep faith: As her family said in a statement, "Dolly lived in the light and is in the arms of Jesus." I greatly admired her during her long and successful career, not only for her abundant talent (and humor), and her deep Christian faith, but also the way that she consistently pushed back on people who would reduce her to a cartoon version of herself. May she rest in peace with God, whom she loved and served so well.
A message from the family of Dolly Parton.

We are called to celebrate the Eucharist at the altar of the Lord, but also in daily life, where it is possible to live everything as an offering and an act of thanksgiving. #GeneralAudience

Humanity, created by God in all its grandeur, is today facing a pivotal choice: either to construct a new Tower of Babel or to build the city in which God and humanity dwell together. In Jesus Christ, this humanity in its grandeur becomes the Way, the Truth and the Life, opening the path for each of us to grow toward fullness. #MagnificaHumanitas vatican.va/content/leo-xiv/e…

It's Whitsun, Pentecost, the summer festival when the Holy Spirit descends with fire. In this Anglo-Saxon image the flames touch the lips of each apostle, and even the sky has turned fiery red. 'Tongues of fire they had, when with love they preached the glory of God' (Ælfric)

In these days leading up to the Solemnity of Pentecost, as we prepare to relive the mystery the miracle of the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the nascent Church, let us #PrayTogether to the Holy Spirit, Lord and Giver of life. May He grant us the gift of #ChristianUnity, bestow upon us enduring peace, and renew the face of the earth.

While our suffering world greatly needs the #peace of Christ, the divisions among Christians weakens our capacity to be effective bearers of that peace. If the world is to take our preaching to heart, we must, therefore, be constant in our prayers and efforts to remove any stumbling blocks that hinder the proclamation of the Gospel. #ChristianUnity vatican.va/content/leo-xiv/e…

It was an honour to meet and pray with His Holiness Pope Leo XIV @Pontifex this morning. I’m deeply grateful for his gracious welcome at the Apostolic Palace. In the years to come, I will remain united with the Pope in prayer – for peace in our world, for justice, and for every person to discover the fullness of life that God offers. The ecumenical pilgrimage is always one we make together, as a fellowship of Christians seeking the unity for which Christ prayed. Your Holiness, as your sister in Christ, in a spirit of prayer, friendship, and hope, I commend our shared journey into the hands of God. The light of #EasterDay shining, dimly but defiantly, upon the horizon from Arnside Knott this morning. #Alleluia! ‘the impossible union Of spheres of existence is actual, Here the past and future Are conquered, and reconciled’. (T.S. Eliot, ‘The Dry Salvages’)

Alleluia! “The resurrection of Jesus does more than inspire us to take a particular step that may lead to fullness of life. Rather his cross and resurrection reveal the secret of all aliveness, his and ours.” (John V Taylor) #Easter
