So ridicilous that Canadian govt has not addressed & put an end to the abusive practice of birth tourism! @Andrew_Griffith

Flags first, DEI next. All the moves you make to reassure your base that you are still the one to dance with after leaving them at the door on the independence referendum.
The best person for the job should get the job. Period.
Today we tabled legislation that would ensure hiring and promotion decisions in the public sector are based on merit, not DEI policies. Mandatory workplace training will be relevant to the roles and responsibilities of the employee, instead of mandatory DEI sessions.
Every Albertan deserves a fair shot, and fairness means everyone competes on the same terms.

"The woman, who is a former nurse for Médecins Sans Frontières, was detained by ICE in Texas, December, 2024, and deported in June of this year. She fled Afghanistan alleging persecution for being Hazara, a minority Muslim community that is persecuted by the Taliban, as well as her family's history working for Western organizations in Helmand province.
The Globe and Mail is not naming the woman because of the risk she would face in Afghanistan if the Central African Republic forcibly repatriates her, which her lawyer says remains a possibility. The former nurse has a temporary visa to remain in the conflict-ridden African country, but it expires at the end of the year."

Ottawa wants to “distribute” immigrants across the economy? Newcomers have mobility rights, and they move where opportunity is. No planner knows better than they do where they’ll be most productive. Place-based immigration is bad economic policy.

Last month’s Public Safety report said antisemitism “includes anti-Zionism.” Misleading claims now suggest the government walked that back. But it hasn’t. The Minister’s reply retracts nothing, twice says the position is unchanged, and reiterates IHRA.

Israeli settlers are out of control, because the Israeli government allows them to be. And while attacks on diplomats or journalists command attention, as they should, this happens unnoticed to Palestinian farmers all the time.
#Breaking: European diplomats, including French and Polish representatives, who went to the West Bank to observe the olive harvest, have been violently assaulted by Israeli settlers.

Why surprised? Musk is a full-service disruptor. He views countries and public institutions as inconveniences at best and barriers at worst to whatever project or prejudice is on his mind. He is a truly oligarchic global citizen: unrooted to anyplace or anyone.

This is just wrong + it's the crux of the argument made here by @sucharov. The surge of antisemitism did not begin with the IDF assault on Gaza. It began immediately after October 7th.
A massacre of Jews is what sparked the global campaign against Jews.

The "Gaza envelope" is basically the Gulf Islands of Israel. One of the most reliably left-wing areas of the country. Many of those targeted were almost identical in dress and demeanour to the Canadian United Church ladies who now celebrate their slaughter.

Because to call for the secession of three provinces is essentially to call for the end of Canada.
Citizenship is predicated on loyalty. Advocating the destruction of one's country is obviously and profoundly disloyal.
Why would you maintain the pretence of loyalty to a country whose destruction you seek? To do so may be legal, but it is both incoherent and dishonourable.

The former is correct. He's Canadian by descent. With the recent changes to citizenship law, his other children via non-Canadian mothers can claim citizenship as well. Harper-era citizenship legislation restricted citizenship by descent to the first generation born overseas.

"Private Citizens" with "no government mandate" should never have been welcomed to discuss separation with US officials at all.
Replying to @unacceptfringe
IN RESPONSE TO THE LIES TOLD BY THE GLOBE AND MAIL I OFFER THE FOLLOWING RESPONSE
It is a complete lie that we offered the US anything when we visited Washington on behalf of Albertans in favour of Alberta Independence.
We were private citizens. We had no government mandate to offer anything. We only went to Washington to express the aspirations of hundreds of thousands of Albertans for a free and independent Alberta and to gauge US support for such a project.
We were gratified by the expressions of enthusiasm by US officials and the fact that Citizens of Alberta receive a far warmer welcome in Washington than we would ever receive in Ottawa.

This is a damning indictment of Ezra Levant, written with sensitivity and nuance but making a complete and compelling argument. Unlike Levant, @mspratt cares about the legal profession and about fairness.
New from me: Ezra Levant’s attacks on an honourable Crown prosecutor go far beyond legitimate criticism. We should scrutinize the justice system. But smears and dog whistles undermine the good-faith debates we badly need: canadianlawyermag.com/news/o…

This story is wild.
If you’re tempted to vote for separation to “send a message,” please read it.
The only “message” your vote will send will be one of credibility and encouragement for the absolute loons profiled here.
As the story shows, they can’t even get along with each other. Imagine these keystone cops trying to negotiate secession while running a $400 billion economy.
These bootlickers went to Washington with no mandate from anyone. They offered to give away our water, rights to our oil, and ultimately our sovereignty to a foreign power.
As the story reveals, a bunch of them want to turn Alberta into some weird extension of the Christian nationalist wing of MAGA.
We *do* need to vote to send a message: that their campaign to collude with a foreign power, turn us against one another, and destroy our country ends decisively on October 19.
A Michigan delegation travelled to Calgary to sell separatists on software developed for Republicans to get out the vote – and how it could be used to wrench Alberta from Confederation.
For David Parker, an organizer for Alberta separation, the software was the path to victory – one that ultimately resulted in a massive privacy breach involving the sensitive personal data of nearly three million Albertans.
But Parker’s embrace of the Michigan delegation is evidence of a pattern: separatist factions in Alberta eager to engage the U.S. in their plans for secession, and American actors willing to assist, either privately or openly.
Through interviews with The Globe on both sides of the border, people involved in politics, the corporate sector and Alberta’s pursuit of separatism have described persistent efforts by figures in the U.S. administration and conservative political establishment to support groups seeking American expansionism and independence for Alberta.
