This is the formula behind nCr, and another notation for it The n being 12 and r being 8 for this means you have 12! divided by 8! * (12-8)!. 12! is 479001600 8! * 4! is 967680 479001600/967680 = 495.

I just realized it's not just Runs Allowed, it's Runs Allowed / Defensive Outs in the games between tied teams. I think it's effectively the same as Runs Allowed / Defensive Innings though
