Very cool Local Elections 2026 Dashboard from Alistair & the Team at The Outlier (my favourite data newsletter). Don't think they're on X. But give this a try:

I have very little to tweet the this morning, but just saying EXTREMELY RADICAL results have come in, in GP overnight. ANC nightmare scenario!
1) Huge DA turnout
2) ActionSA it seems levelling or DEFEATING the ANC in townships
3) DA inroads in townships
Uncharted territory!
47% of people evidently like no electricity, no water, low service delivery.
You don’t have to vote DA. They aren’t necessarily the saviours.
But not voting is the lowest form of cowardice.
Non voters? Make it make sense to me?
This is an interesting thought experiment. Can’t figure out whether the fragmentation it will likely result in would be better or worse for a democracy.
This is interesting. Give it a try:
I spent my R100 on five parties. How would you spend yours? fivevotes.com/

1.4 million special votes cast.
In 2021 it was 500 000.
An additional 900 000! In a local government election that's significant.
Something is brewing.

The @Our_DA developed a mobile game for people to play while waiting in election line queues. You can play Cape Town mode (easy) or Joburg mode (hard) 😂

It's early, there's a lot of hours to go and it needs to persist, but in hour 1, we are on a trajectory of higher suburban turnout than what has been assumed in the polling.

One final time from me: Turnout is crucially important tomorrow. GO VOTE!!!
Joburg People: This is existential. Turnout non-negotiable. Over to you.
All true.
Now if we could just figure out water, electricity and local governance - while continuing to chip away at the poverty gap through economic growth... world beaters.

No electricity for 36 hours. No refuse collection for 2 weeks. 2 days before elections.
Please. Please vote.

One concerning thing I've heard people say is: 'Party X always wins this ward, so it doesn't matter if I go vote'
THIS IS WRONG.
Every single vote (ward and PR) gets put into the overal seat % calculation. So EVERY VOTE matters in EVERY WARD. TURN OUT. GO VOTE ON WEDNESDAY!
Very useful exercise. whichparty.co.za
No chance wasting vote on Herman again. Interesting how high IFP/PA are.
Also important to note how many questions match. Perhaps indicative of a few core issues where I feel very different.
Tough, tough issues to think through.
