Also on this day in 1917, my gt uncle was part of a push to stop reinforcements from attacking Canadian troops at Passchendaele by an assault on Gheluvelt. It was a complete disaster. He was killed and has no known grave. I've written about him here ⬇️ cwgc.org/stories/stories/pri…
On This Day 26th Oct 1917. The positions of the British from Passchendaele to Poelcapelle are much improved. On This Day 26th Oct 1917. Brazil is declared in a state of War with Germany.

Anniversary today of the battle of Trafalgar, 21 October 1805. Importance was to crush Napoleon's ambitions of dominating the waves, though he crusaded on land on & off, until Waterloo in 1815

Knowing how much @JHCPAL like a map, I thought she'd like this one, created for the Festival of Britain in 1951. It was designed by commercial artist Cecil Walter Bacon More at davidrumsey.com/luna/servlet…

On Instagram _ellawillis talks about NE dialect and pointed out recently the number of words in the NE for good things (canny / mint / belta etc) and one that was a young'un we used all the time; hellish. Glad to see it's not forgotten, but sadly not as common as it was
Guinevere's Dialect Compendium did canny a while back. My book from 1894 has a page and a half (!) explaining and giving examples of it's use.

If you haven't watched this, then now is the time. Top tier TV
It seems that @Channel4 currently has the complete series of the outstanding #WW2 documentary "The World at War" available to watch through its on demand service. *Highly* recommended (in case anyone was vaguely unaware). channel4.com/programmes/the-…

Whilst this might be true, the real objection is that it is barbaric.
As my friend @Mpolymer says, in terms of actual practicality, the idea of giving martyrs a massive audience to martyr themselves seems very unwise. It is not a deterrent. It will actually become a recruiting tool for terrorists.

As the great Nigel Molesworth once said "The game is up. Foiled agane. We are trapped like rats in a garret..This is the plan which cannot fail but usually do."
Thank you to the MOD and civilian police and security teams who acted quickly and professionally to arrest two individuals at RAF Molesworth. We are highly vigilant about potential threats to our military sites and work closely with the police to keep them secure. The protection of our bases is multi-layered, including physical barriers, patrols, surveillance, monitoring, and counter-drone capabilities.

Please learn CPR. You never know when you might need to use it. I know of someone who leaned CPR and not long afterwards they needed to use it. On their daughter. It's really easy to learn so just do it.
Thank you to cardiac arrest survivor, Asad, and Ian from @RedfernFund for joining us at Resus Annie on Tour in Leicester. Both have personal experience of cardiac arrest, and shared powerful reminders of why CPR and defibrillation matter. πŸ’ͺ
