Announcement 📣 and Super Opportunity! 🙌✅ After 5 tremendously successful years with records broken on a regular basis! Taking our membership up from ground zero! To 252 last season, pretty much twice more than the former successful Derby & District RA ever achieved! Our Secretary, Colin Marshall will be standing down at the AGM on 14th September 2026, happy (if elected) to continue his role and support to us as Treasurer. Anyone wishing to stand for Secretary needs a proposer and a seconder in writing, email to [email protected] by Tuesday 25th August 2026 Have you got the skills and competencies to fulfil such a role at one of the largest (if not the largest) fee paying LRA memberships in the UK? You need to provide in the email not only your proposer and seconder, but we’d love you to explain your skills with examples around - Team-working collaboration Communication Results driven Knowledge of Laws and the RA Benefits Coaching and Development This is a great opportunity for a young aspiring referee, to interact with select group colleagues, raise their profile and add to their CV too! Colin is happy to remain on hand in the Committee to support this transition of course, so you won’t be on your own unless you want to be. We look forward to members deciding at the AGM who will become our Secretary. D&SD RA expressed their gratitude to Colin for his services to date and beyond, with Col’s increasing political profile growing the committee agreed this was a positive opportunity for change, as D&SD RA remain an ‘apolitical’ society. Thank you and best wishes to Col’s successor here.

To my refereeing colleagues, has anyone heard of a hybrid referees system being operated in the UK. If so, how does it work. It’s been suggested as way to increase coverage in youth football. I have not of this before so intrigue. Thoughts?

Was this fan eating a sandwich during the first half? Clear red card and he only has himself to blame for not being able to control his emotions.
Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder was sent off after kicking a ball in frustration at a fan just before half-time 🚨

Great 1st of the season meeting! We had our AGM where we thanked Colin Meakin for his services on the committee as welfare officer and welcomed Andrew Smith back as our new Welfare & Youth Development Officer. We had 55 people attend with a packed schedule. We had our Vice Chairperson & Membership Officer go through the Law of the game updates for 2025/26 season. Everyone then enjoyed the chip butties and then onto our 3 guest speakers. We had Liam Rooney CEO of @DerbyshireFA providing an update about refereeing & facilities in Derbyshire. After that we enjoyed a spectacular session ran by James Oldham & Ollie Bickle who are both National Group officials. The session was about resilience and reflection time, how it can affect you as a match offical at all levels of the game from grassroots to the professional game. Vote of thanks presented by Colin Marshall Next meeting is on the 13th October with a Premier League Referee, guest speaker. See you then. 👍🏻 @FARefereeing @RefsAssociation @FA_PGMOL @TheRefStop @refsix @ErewashValleyRS @BurtonReferees

What can I say? Sam Shaw was one of the first people within football that taught me the ropes and helped put things into context, our paths crossed again at @Basfordutdfc she was one of my favourite people to catch up with and will be sorely missed by everyone. #RIP

The club are delighted to hear that 17-year old George Cox will become the first Hull-born referee to take charge of a final at Wembley Stadium tomorrow in the Steven Mullaney Memorial Match between Sirius Academy West and Rainford High School - good luck, George 👏 George began his refereeing journey back in 2020, when he took on the role of Junior Match Official in our annual Junior Takeover match day 🙌 ⚫️⚪️ #COYH | @ecostrad
