I had an enjoyable guided tour today of Hafoty Medieval House, near Llanddona, led by Richard Suggett and organised by Cadw and the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales.
It was enhanced by the presence of 20 people from an extended family descended from the last tenant of the house, who died in 1960. Some of them had stayed at the house with their taid as children. Sadly, the keyholder never showed up, so we weren't able to get inside.
The building dates to the 15th century, replacing an earlier timber building, and features a fine Tudor fireplace in the great hall. It will be open again in September: cadw.gov.wales/open-doors-ha…
