💔🐾 WE HAVE ENOUGH LOVE FOR EVERYONE, BUT NOT ENOUGH FOOD. I wish you could witness just one of our meals. Not to see the little food we manage to put together, but to see what happens when it is gone. A child looking at the last piece, wishing there were more. A little rescued cat licking the bottom of an empty bowl, searching for one more bite. Others gathering close, hoping there might be just a little left for them. So many little faces, still hungry, looking at us with eyes full of sadness and silent pleading. And we look back, trying to hold ourselves together. How do you explain to a hungry child that there is no more? How do you look at an animal you rescued, one that trusts you with its entire life, knowing that even after sharing everything you have, its hunger remains? This is the heartbreak we live with every day. Our children, our families, and the rescued cats of AFS are all depending on the same dwindling resources. We divide every little amount we manage to obtain, making portions smaller and smaller, hoping somehow to make them last. But there is a limit to how much food can be stretched, and a limit to how many hungry mouths we can feed without help. We did not rescue these animals to let them suffer again. We welcomed them into our lives, gave them shelter, and promised to care for them. They are part of our family. And our children deserve more than tiny portions that leave them hungry. You know what gets to us the most? How happy our cats are just to see us. Sometimes, they finish eating and still won’t leave. They lie down beside us, rub against us, or just sit there looking at us. And when we walk away, some keep watching us, while others follow us a little before disappearing.
