Brilliant news! 🙌And shows that the #dormouse #reintroduction is working at least in the short term. There's still work to be done by local volunteers and local reserve managers before we can say this is an unqualified success but we're so pleased to see this important step!
Dormice reintroduced to the Arnside & Silverdale AONB have bred successfully with 13 young dormice found in a recent nest box survey.
This was carried out by licensed NE and @BoomCumbria staff who are training volunteers in safe handling of the species 🐭

It's #DormouseWeek and it's great to see all the successes and research that are helping dormice!
This video is our dormouse bridge in 2019 and shows a good example of how dormice use the bridge - they're great climbers and will use all parts of the bridge to move around!
#DormouseWeek is the best week! These reintroductions combined with habitat management are very important for dormouse populations. Thanks to our bridge partner @PTES for the fantastic conservation work they do!
It's been a busy and successful year for PTES and dormice, as earlier this year we released our 1000th hazel dormouse into the wild!

Footprint tracking tunnels are rectangular tubes with trays inside, a sheet of paper and 2 inkpads. We're using them alongside wooden nest boxes to see if #dormice are around even when we don’t spot them!

We're thrilled to be included in this special issue on canopy bridges! They are still accepting more submissions for papers. We're excited to read about bridges from around the world!
We are editing a special issue in @FoliaPrimatol about canopy bridges to mitigate the impacts of linear infrastructure on arboreal animals.
Submissions are open!!
Please spread the word to your colleagues so we can advance our knowledge on this understudied topic.

When you design a #canopybridge you need to think in durable and resistant materials.

Our hedgerows are a safe home for nature, providing food and linking together fragmented habitats. 🌳
More than 2,000 species call our hedgerows home.
That's why we need more, bigger and bushier hedgerows right across the country. 🦋

Found my first wild #dormouse nest of the season in a #Nottinghamshire woodland. This one was low down in dense bramble along the edge of a footpath @PTES @NottsDormice @Nottswildlife #dormice #mammals

Check out this great new app "Healthy Hedgerows" by @PTES to help people quickly assess their hedgerows and find out what type of management it needs!
Hedgerow mismanagement (particularly overcutting) is one of the biggest causes of declines and this is a great initiative.
Have you got hedgerows to be proud of?! Wild, rugged, bigger and more joined up?

Sometimes Dormice find the oddest places to rest! 😴
Dormice are sleepy little creatures and have been known to find unusual places for their naps. 🐾
This incredibly cute #dormouse was found fast sleep curled up behind a gate! 😴
Have you found dormice in odd places? Let us know!

We're thrilled to have released 15 captive-bred breeding pairs into Lancashire this week. Reintroductions and the long-term recovery of hazel #dormice wouldn't be possible without our exceptional team, partners, volunteers and supporters.

Check out this nice close-up video of Dormice feeding on a Bird Cherry. 🐭 Dormice need a variety of plant species to feed on throughout their active season and flowering or fruiting plants are especially valuable!

Take a look at this fantastic, very visual, article on many of the different types of wildlife crossings!
It's incredible to see growing awareness and excitement from the public about wildlife crossings, even for small animals.
