Nearly 1 in 3 working households has no retirement account at all.
For millions, a secure retirement is already out of reach. Yet some want to put even more risk on workers by opening 401(k)s to risky investments like private equity and crypto.

Over and over again we learn that the conspiracy theory of Trump-Russia collusion which completely monopolized all political and media attention for years was pure bullshit, but Trump and his cronies DO have extremely corrupt ties to numerous other nations which just get ignored.
Aside from the shocking substance of this story, what's amazing is how it was unearthed by Cole. The short version: The Russians were able to penetrate Jared Kushner's iPhone and extract screenshots and data. Then, a Russian intel official was captured by Dutch intelligence (!) and flipped. The Dutch believed Kushner may have been acting on behalf of Russia, so pursued him as an intel target and were able to get into his phone.
They did not find any evidence of Russian collusion, instead they watched him moving hundreds of millions of dollars from slush funds created by Saudi Arabia and the UAE, one of them housed in Israel's central bank.
Incredible reporting, and if Democrats have any sense, they will pull on these threads and learn a lot more about this money.

“In late spring 2020, a source I knew to be reliable called me with a story,” writes Matthew Cole. “The Dutch government had hacked into Jared Kushner’s phone and monitored him as he accessed a Dubai-based bank account. What was odd, the source said, was that the money in the account—hundreds of millions of dollars—had come from a bank in Azerbaijan. Most importantly, Kushner appeared to have transferred significant amounts of money from the Dubai account to other individuals, including a warlord, a mercenary and a one-time hit man. The story sounded preposterous, I told my source. And yet.
Six months later, I found myself speaking with someone else about the UAE government and their use of mercenaries in conflicts around the Middle East and Africa when I asked, on a whim, whether they knew anything about Kushner and bank transfers from a UAE account. My acquaintance grew quiet. Then they replied, ‘Yes.’” Kushner’s lawyer denied the bank account existed.

Really smart and fair assessment of Steinem and liberal feminism from Vivian, whose humility and skepticism are a guide for us all.

In the United States, extreme wealth has reached levels never seen before—not even during the Gilded Age of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
This is the concentration of wealth we must confront.
Because extreme wealth always comes with extreme power: the power to crush competition, manipulate public debate, shape public policy, and buy elections.
Absolutely chilling. The long-term goal has always been privatization, ie., turning schools over to "local communities." Think about what that means in the south a few decades from "separate but equal," or in the midwest where tax bases are nonexistent after deindustrialization?
American education needs a hard reset.
We have poured over $3 Trillion into the federal education bureaucracy only to watch reading and math scores decline.
As we look to the next 250 years, the future of learning must come from states and local communities – not Washington.

Nice story in NYT on the growing affordability crisis. My only nit was the takeaway, which failed to explore whether any of the price hikes in healthcare, concert tickets, skiing, or other industries assessed here could be attributed to monopolization or price fixing. The authors blame rising child care prices on workers (sigh), ignoring private equity roll-ups of child care centers.
again, holy fucking shit
SCOOP: Major U.S. banks are detecting unauthorized third-party AI agents inside customer accounts, including some attempting to take actions that appear to be independent of user instructions, sources told Axios.
The findings have alarmed banking executives, who are racing to restrict access to their systems as AI moves at a velocity faster than financial institutions can respond, multiple industry and bank executives told Axios.
Several banks are now preparing for worst-case and even “day after” scenarios, including how to rapidly secure or restore customer accounts if things go wrong, the people said.
Several bank executives told Axios they're struggling to distinguish between human users and AI agents. One executive said banks also struggle to determine whether agents are authorized by customers or potentially operating without their permission, more akin to rogue agent behavior.

Disgraceful from this pair. Polymarket should not be anywhere near professional sports. It doesn't matter if they're talented athletes, it's fine to shame people for their naked greed.

Sorry I'm not buying your 2 bed 1 bath, 1000 sqft "starter" home with no HVAC, .15 acre lot for $560,000.00 with a 7.5% interest rate chief. Maybe you should pull yourself up by your boot straps and sell it for less
