"We are here, we are queer, and it is time to change the law"
Independent MP Alex Greenwich has introduced his LGBTQIA+ Equality Bill into NSW Parliament this morning, which he claims will be the state's most comprehensive reform of its kind in history | #nswpol @AlexGreenwich
The Bill would make gay conversion practices illegal in NSW and ban discrimination practices against LGBTQIA+ teachers and students at private schools.
"At the heart of the Equality Legislation Amendment: LGBTQIA+ Bill and the Conversion Practices Prohibition Bill is the truth that LGBTQIA+ people exist, are struggling, should be recognised and protected by law and allowed to thrive," Greenwich said.
"It is emotionally destructive to be told that you are bad, sinful, to blame for who you are and that you need to change something intrinsic about yourself."

The Premier’s strong commitment to ending LGBTQ+ conversion practices is very welcome. Any legislative ban must extend to religious settings and be matched with resources for education, training and redress & support for survivors #nswpol – at Sydney, New South Wales
So delighted to get this out into the world today!
Building on the incredible work of @JackieMaeTurner, and now led by the wonderful Max Pick, with @ymania, this campaign is about building the movement for TransEquality. Make sure you are part of it! 🏳️⚧️
It’s official! Today we are launching the #TransEquality campaign, a first-of-its-kind trans-led movement to push forward legal and social equality.

Tomorrow marks two months since President Museveni signed the Anti-Homosexuality Act into law. I’m currently in Uganda, at the request of our partners, to learn more about how the situation is unfolding and what the international community can do to support. A #thread.

Last week the ACT govt. passed Australia’s first protections against unnecessary medical interventions on intersex people, without their consent.
We were on the ground to see the reactions from Intersex advocates, who have spent years campaigning for this across Aus.
Thank you for your leadership and commitment to protecting intersex people @ABarrMLA 💜💛

Every intersex person should be able to decide for themselves what happens to their body. Such wonderful news in the ACT today! 💜💛
Our thoughts are with the LGBT community in Uganda
The laws in Uganda are shocking and an unjust attack by a powerful government on a small community. These laws put members of our community at immediate risk. Please donate to stand in solidarity with LGBT+ Ugandans
🚨Uganda Anti-LGBT+ Bill signed by the President.
The new law criminalizes any LGBT+ activism and introduces the death penalty for “aggravated homosexuality”.
Donate to stand in solidarity with LGBT+ Ugandans and provide the safety they urgently require allout.lgbt/ugandaemergency
It’s time to end medically unnecessary surgeries and medical interventions performed on intersex people without their consent.
Thank you to Mimi and @tonybriffa for speaking out and sharing their stories 💜 💛

LGBTIQ+ people who are young, trans and/or experiencing family violence are among those most at risk of unemployment or homelessness. That's why we're joining the call to #RaiseTheRate on Jobseeker and other income support. #auspol #LGBTIQ
This should be a simple and straight forward reform. Until the law changes, LGBTQ students and teachers remain at risk of being expelled, rejected or sacked simply because of who they are or who they love.
Media release: Delay to Australian Law Reform Commission review is disappointing with more risk of harm
