ALT This is the main entrance to what is now the Friends of Glasgow Royal Infirmary’s recently opened museum which is located in architect James Miller’s imposing Baroque Jubilee Building - a lavishly ornamented cliff of blonde sandstone adjacent to Glasgow Cathedral. The projecting entrance porch is directly below Albert Hemstock Hodges’ rather stern bronze monument to Queen Victoria.

ALT This is the grey granite plaque commemorating Joseph Lister and how he initiated antiseptic treatment within the wards on this site thereby saving countless lives. The plaque is located on a low blonde sandstone range in front of the main Glasgow Royal Infirmary building, the main tower of which looms in the background. This is a flattering photograph as the plaque is not easy to appreciate as it is tucked behind cast iron railings and obscured by a badly positioned modern bus shelter.
