'Understanding the appeal of figures like Andrew Tate requires moving beyond surface-level explanations that blame feminist discourse for alienating boys and young men.
Instead, it’s crucial to recognise how these figures exploit genuine economic and social anxieties by offering regressive narratives that reinforce unequal gender power structures.'

"... with a view to banning children from opening social media accounts"
Banning children?
This policy is missing the point. We don't ban children from buying alcohol, we ban businesses from selling it to them.

John Curtin Research Centre Henry Boote Young Writer Prize Winners! 👇
As part of our incredible 2024 Annual Curtin Oration delivered by Treasurer @JEChalmers on Monday evening, we announced the joint winners of the Henry Boote Young Writers Prize sponsored by the Victorian branch of the Australian Workers Union with @AWU_Victoria secretary Ronnie Hayden on hand to make the presentation along with Advisory Council member and labour movement icon David Cragg.
🎉Congratulations to Sarah Greaves and Liam Miles!
🏆 Liam Miles won the prize jointly for his impactful essay, "It’s not a house. It’s a home: Economic Insecurity and Australian Housing." Liam calls for bold action on housing, urging us to increase owner-occupiers and address the growing divide between homeowners and renters.
🏆 Sarah Greaves shared the prize for her insightful work, "Levelling the Playing Field: Public Education as a Path to Addressing Economic Inequality." Sarah tackles the issue of educational inequality and suggests critical reforms to help close the wealth gap.
We also extend our heartfelt congratulations to Tyler Brusamarello, who receives an honourable mention for his sharp analysis on "intergenerational inequality and insecurity" stemming from neoliberal policies.
🎉 Well done to all who submitted entries! The future of the labour movement is in good hands with writers of this calibre fighting the battle of ideas for a better, fairer Australia! Keep an eye out for our the opening of submissions for the 2025 Henry Boote Prize!
