I agree it's way too early to pass final judgement on the center... ...but "foundations are unimportant parts of new buildings" is not the defense I was expecting.
Judging a brand new civics center by its first semester head count is like judging a new building only by its foundation. Stay the course. The future of civic education in our republic is worth the investment.

WVU put out a release today outlining changes coming to parking on campus. Including raising prices of parking in short term lots (some more than doubling the current rate), new fees for repeat parking offenders, and increasing the price of parking permits by 5%.

Today is Gee-Reed Day 2026. Thinking today of the loss this day represents.
From now on, for me May 9 will always be Gee-Reed day. May we never forget their legacy and lasting impact on this university and the state.

The Washington Center may not offer any minors yet, but that hasn't stopped them from offering scholarships of up to $25,000 to students who commit to pursuing the Washington Center's (currently nonexistent) minor. wcwvu.org/scholarships
Director of the new Washington Center whines about minors at WVU having to go through an approval process. thedaonline.com/news/univers…

The requirements for the minor are stated as being taking one Washington Center class per semester for five semesters. I'm not comfortable with non-WVU websites advertising requirements for WVU programs when said programs (and requirements) haven't been approved.

And no, the law creating the Washington Center did not give it autonomous decision-making authority on this matter, instead specifically directing the center to work with the university to develop the minor.

Could someone clarify (I missed the meeting): Did the BOG really approve a secret resolution for the university to issue an undisclosed amount of new bonds to finance an undisclosed project?

Remember when WVU laid off a bunch of faculty and staff due due to declining enrollment and the president insisted that declining enrollment was a national trend? That ex-president now says that isn't true; his leadership made WVU an outlier. udi.asu.edu/co-lab/perspecti…

That same ex-president apparently doesn't like when faculty pass no-confidence votes. I wonder why.

Former WVU president Jim Clements to retire from his current role as president at Clemson at the end of the year. As WVU president, he put the university firmly on the trajectory to achieving R1 status.

Yes @WestVirginiaU looks especially beautiful with a blanket of snow. But don't forget all our dedicated facilities & grounds personnel who continue to work hard to make sidewalks and roads passable. Thanks to all these dedicated employees! See you on campus soon.

In response to a question at today's faculty senate meeting regarding the terms of this contract, Kreider provided little detail but did distance himself (and pretty much everyone else at the university) from the content of the contract.
Director is a 5-year appointment. Assuming minimum raise of 10%/yr, in Year 5 Miller will have a salary of $440k and with "satisfactory" performance will receive an additional $44k bonus.

"The contract negotiations for Dr Miller's contract were handled solely by the governor's office in conjunction with his legal representation and the general counsel of WVU. So there were no academics involved in negotiation of that contract."
