Fat People: Raise your hand if you've been told to "eat less and exercise more" by a healthcare provider who hadn't bothered to ask what you eat, or how much you exercise. Even if dieting did work (and it doesn't) practicing stereotypes instead of medicine would still be wrong.

So I found out how much the NCMP costs LAs + NHS digital. I also went down a deep, dark rabbit hole looking at the evidence that the NCMP is harmless, as the govt assert. Turns out those claims are misleading - who'd have thought? laurathomas.substack.com/p/h…

‘Alarming’ rise in children trying to lose weight in England, say experts theguardian.com/society/2022…

@AnyBodyOrg #playnotweigh campaign is great to consider when talking to children about body image too. They're ensuring parents and children are aware of their right to opt out of the inaccurate and unhelpful National Child Measurement Programme

Calling fat people an “epidemic” isn't accurate or helpful. Nor are movies/TV creating entire worlds without a single fat person. Fat people see ourselves represented either extremely negatively, or not at all. It's toxic. Fat people deserve positive representation!

Could people please stop peddling "calories in/calories out" diets for weight loss as if we haven't known for decades they don't work - unless, of course, you're hoping for short-term weight loss followed by weight regain and harm from weight cycling? Thanks.

If you’re hesitant to give up the word ob*se because it’s a medical term, please remember that up until 1987 homosexuality was included in the DSM as a psychiatric diagnosis.
The medical establishment doesn’t always get it right.

A #NoDietDay reminder: there is plenty of research proving that diets don't "work" and can be harmful for your health and wellbeing. Check our full post on Instagram here 👉🏽 bit.ly/3Foq1Cp to find out more!

If you've seen African runways, the models have the most beautiful creative hairstyles. Not limited to short hair.
Western modelling is not in ethnic peoples interest. If they wanted to, they would, and is very possible.

I do the same when brands ask to work with me while their largest size in an xl.
Do you want me to show off your earring collections? Tiny purses? Maybe a scarf?
Hard pass.

Nurse after taking my weight: “I see you have joint pain. The best remedy for joint pain is weight loss. If you lost 10% of your weight…” Me: “does weight loss fix the condition I was diagnosed with at 125 pounds and 25 years ago? You might want to read to the end.” – at Virginia, USA

Massive kudos to @Dishoom Manchester - I asked for a menu without calories but they didn’t have one so one of the staff (Georgia) took a menu and scribbled out all the calories for me 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

why is the automatic response to fat people when we talk about the lack of access to plus size clothing that we should just “start our own line” like why should we have to do that to be able to find clothes that fit us??

Six months ago, Dr. Lindo Bacon reached out to the ASDAH Leadership Team about their intent to write a revised Health at Every Size® Book. What transpired has caused a great deal of harm and a heavy burden of emotional labor for our team.

I think of fatphobia as a straightjacket. It impacts many if not most of us, with its oppressive restrictions and implicit threats not to get any bigger. But it cuts off and into the very flesh of larger fat folks. That is why fat justice needs to center fat bodies.

This appears to be a cheap, lazy, inequitable initiative based around bad metrics and guilting parents to address a perceived concern. Very on brand for a Tory led education system. Share early, share often ✊
