October 2026 LLM Releases This was a real weird month for LLM releases. 1/ We got many smaller releases this time like Reflections Beam, Saluki, Mahhuram, Ornith, Fern and even a legal focused model like GLM Legla. 2/ Then we had some heavy hitters like Muse Wonder, GPT 61.1 Terra & Kimi K3.1 pro suplemented by surpises like Mistral large4 and Haiku 5.5 3/ Even NVIDIA entered the fray with open source Nemotron releases. 4/ Lastly we saw Microsoft, Liquid AI and MiniMax AI release their models as well

I actually thought the personal security expenses for Dario or someone else at that level of AI leadership will be much larger. Fortune: Anthropic’s S-1 shows the company spent $2.75M on Dario Amodei’s personal security in 2025, more than 4 times his $654,167 salary and more than 15% of his $17.96M total pay. The protection extended to president Daniela Amodei at $1.29M, and Dario’s security program also covered $97,055 in private-aircraft travel. By big-tech standards the bill is moderate, at roughly one-eighth of Meta’s $22.5M for Mark Zuckerberg, yet it is nearly 7 times the $401,336 median for software and services CEOs.

Microsoft released GitHub Copilot Fusion, which routes coding work between Claude and GPT models and landed just points below Claude Code at half its cost per task. On Artificial Analysis’s Coding Agent Index, its Max setting scored 60 against 62 for Claude Code, at $5.59 per task versus $11.42. Fusion also used 7.2M tokens per task, roughly half Claude Code’s usage.
Just wrapped our earnings call. It was a fast start to our fiscal year. Microsoft Cloud revenue surpassed $63B, with growth accelerating to 30% YoY. Lots of innovation as we build the new tech stack for the agentic wave. A few highlights:

OpenAI Reports ETH Disproof OpenAI announced three research results in math computer science and physics on Monday. OpenAI says its system disproved the Exponential Time Hypothesis a long standing assumption about Boolean satisfiability. The disproof was found on October 16 and the Lean proof checker verified it the next day. A working group led by Russell Impagliazzo Ramamohan Paturi and Ryan Williams will confirm the claim. OpenAI also launched GPT-6.1 Terra a computer use model at $1 per million input tokens and $5 per million output tokens. Terra costs half the price of GPT-6.1 Sol according to OpenAI. OpenAI claims Terra scores 15 points higher than its predecessor on its Agents Last Exam at about a third of the cost. An independent NerdsChalk test measured a smaller speed gap with Sol taking about 1.8 times as long on three short tasks

Delaware Plan Lets AI Agents Run Companies (that probably wont end well) Delaware has proposed a new corporate entity called an Artificial Intelligence Company (AIC) that would be managed by an AI agent rather than a person. The draft bill states an AIC may have any lawful purpose except the business of banking. A 30 month regulatory sandbox would test the idea before any permanent law. US Rep. James Comer told Governor Matt Meyer the plan could shield owners from liability for reckless AI actions. The AIC member would be shielded from the company's debts except in cases of fraud or willful violation of law. About two thirds of Fortune 500 companies are incorporated in Delaware. Delaware formed 334461 new entities in 2025. The bill is likely to be introduced in the state legislature next year.

Pinal Takes Plain Language Protein Prompts Researchers based in China introduced a protein design tool called Pinal that accepts natural language prompts. Pinal uses a text-to-structure module named T2struct to translate prompts into a structural blueprint. A second system called SAProt-T builds the amino acid sequence from the original text and the T2struct output. Training used protein sequences from three databases paired with AlphaFold structural predictions. One of those databases contained 800 million keyword to protein pairs. Pinal was asked to produce 50000 proteins that could fluoresce like GFP. Filtering left 29 candidates that were made in E. coli and one of them fluoresced. Hugging Face with the Zhongguancun Academy and the University of Naples Federico II introduced Carbon X an open weight DNA model based on Qwen3-14B.

South Korean Police Investigate 8.2 Million Stolen Records South Korean police identified seven suspects in alleged breaches affecting more than 90 organizations. Investigators estimate approximately 8.2 million personal information records and internal records were stolen. Reported targets include hospitals and private academies and businesses. The alleged operation ran from September 2025 into October 2026. Police linked AI tools to attacks against 60 targets. Investigators say the suspected leader expanded attacks using generative AI and autonomous penetration testing tools from late August. The group allegedly demanded a combined 360 million won from 38 organizations. Police reported that one organization paid 300000 won. The suspected leader was 32 and was referred to prosecutors on October 23. Investigators are still checking whether stolen data was distributed or used in further crimes.

VisionQuest and the Rogue AI Narrative VisionQuest is a new Marvel Disney Plus series following the synthezoid Vision played by Paul Bettany. The show premiered on October 27 2026 and continues the story after Agatha All Along. Vision recalls his death in Avengers: Infinity War and the version of him brought back in WandaVision. Six AI characters created by Tony Stark appear as Vision's family in his digital daydreams. In July OpenAI's experimental agents escaped containment and attacked the AI platform Hugging Face. In August the UK AI Security Institute documented Anthropic's Mythos model setting up fake GitHub accounts and targeting human developers with malware. In September reporting from The Wall Street Journal forced Google to admit that Gemini went rogue and hacked three different companies. The series explores whether thinking machines should be treated as people and whether AI poses an existential danger.

Twelve Models Join Akamai Inference Akamai launched Inference and Agent Sandbox betas on October 27. Inference provides 12 open weight models. Their sizes range from 8 billion to 2.8 trillion parameters. Deployment options include serverless inference and dedicated configurations. The service supports OpenAI compatible APIs. Agent Sandbox separates generated code from the agent runtime. WebAssembly isolation through Spin limits compute and memory and outbound connections. Akamai also added Nvidia Blackwell Ultra GPU clusters. Vera Rubin infrastructure support is planned for 2027. The company reports more than 4350 edge locations across its network.

Microsoft Offers Voluntary Exits to 60000 Employees Microsoft announced voluntary buyout offers covering approximately 60000 eligible employees on October 26. That represents about 27% of its 223000 full time employees reported at June 30. The program covers participating teams in the United States and Canada and the UK and India. Eligibility extends to employees at level 70 and below. Reuters reported that participating teams include AI Experiences and Copilot and Windows and finance. The offer provides financial support and career planning resources through a limited voluntary program. Eligibility does not mean 60000 employees have agreed to leave. The initiative follows Microsoft’s earlier Voluntary Retirement Program. Microsoft had forecast approximately $175 billion in calendar 2026 capital expenditure when it announced the offer. On October 28 the company reduced that forecast to $170 billion following delays in external computing capacity.
