Arccos golfers at Shinnecock actually gain strokes on driving (+0.5 vs. a 5-HCP benchmark) and are even on putting but lose 2.1 strokes on approach. The greens are small, firm, and wind-exposed. Same pattern shows up in U.S. Open Strokes Gained data. Shinnecock has always been an iron-play course.

At Shinnecock, Arccos golfers average just 0.9 birdies per round and the par-5 5th and 16th account for nearly all of it (combined 27.8% birdie rate). If you're not making birdie on the par 5s, you're probably not making birdie at all. 🐥
