Much-loved porter Pete is retiring after years of distinguished service at Asda Newark – and handing over the trolley straps to his 17-year-old grandson Matthew who recently started at the store. While Pete, who's 68, looks forward to a well-earned rest Matthew will be picking up the mantle and taking on his role as porter. Pete said: "I've been training Matthew up and showing him the ropes and he's taken to it like a duck to water." Matthew said: "I got the opportunity to learn from his years of knowledge and experience and it's been great having that extra time to spend with my grandad. He's a legend."
