COURT OF APPEALS SIDES WITH ADOR On the afternoon of the 29th at 2 p.m., the Seoul High Court held the sentencing hearing for the appeal in ADOR’s damages lawsuit against advertising production company Dolphin Kidnapping Group. The court ruled: “The plaintiff’s appeal against the defendants and the defendants’ appeal are both dismissed. Of the appeal costs, those arising between the plaintiff and the defendants shall be borne by each party respectively. The litigation costs between the plaintiff and Dolphin Kidnapping Group’s Shin Woo-seok shall be borne by the plaintiff.” In the first-instance ruling in January, the court ordered Dolphin Kidnapping Group to pay ADOR KRW 1 billion plus delay interest, out of the KRW 1.1 billion ADOR had claimed. It excluded the separate KRW 100 million damages claim filed against director Shin Woo-seok personally. Earlier, in August 2024, Dolphin Kidnapping Group uploaded a director’s cut of NewJeans’ “ETA” music video to its own YouTube channel. ADOR demanded its removal, saying the video had been posted without prior agreement. Dolphin Kidnapping Group countered that the posting had been made after verbal consultation during former ADOR CEO Min Hee-jin’s tenure. ADOR ultimately filed a civil suit seeking roughly KRW 1.1 billion, arguing that the unauthorized release of NewJeans video footage owned by the company was illegal. In connection with the case, former CEO Min Hee-jin appeared as a witness and testified that “there was prior verbal consent to post the director’s cut of the ‘ETA’ music video separately,” siding with Dolphin Kidnapping Group.
