The Atlanta VAHCS is currently celebrating Sterile Processing Service Week.
Sterile Processing Services (SPS) plays a vital role in protecting patients and supporting clinical care. SPS staff clean, inspect, assemble, package, sterilize, and distribute reusable medical instruments and equipment in accordance with approved policies, manufacturer instructions, and infection-prevention standards.
Effective sterile processing requires careful attention to detail, accurate documentation, quality assurance, and collaboration with clinical departments. By ensuring that instruments are safe and ready for use, SPS helps prevent healthcare-associated infections and promotes safe, efficient patient care.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and wearing pink helps promote early detection. Pink Out events are one way to demonstrate support while encouraging mammograms, self-examinations, and other preventive measures. The Atlanta VAHCS has the highest enrollment of women Veterans of any VA health care system in the country. Thanks to Veterans and staff who participated.
