I spend a fair bit of time in historic racing, as many know and so I talk to a serious quota of ‘greatest generation’ racing drivers.
Here’s a few things millennials like me should really note - they are in their 70’s/80’s now…
They arrive on time without fail, (I’m talking - to the literal minute) explain patiently and quietly with zero pretence despite objectively terrifying feats/stories.
They minimise their own and maximise everyone else’s contribution to their usually significant results and achievements. And often tell the story from somebody else’s perspective
These are people forged by different world. Roll your eyes as much as you want, we need to grab their view of the world before it’s gone.
Will be hot at Assen this weekend, so here's a reminder of how the long, hot summer of '76 affected Assen 50 years ago. "Many riders found the temperatures, which reached the mid-30s, too hot for racing. Worst affected was sidecar winner Hermann Schmid, who collapsed and momentarily his heart stopped beating."

So sad to hear of the passing of Jochen Mass...spoke with him @goodwoodrevival a couple of years ago...such a legend. This wonderful photo is from @Autocourse1 1980 taken at Long Beach where Jochen was being Jochen. Danke 🙏

As a racing fan it's fantastic to have the @Motocourse1 archive, where you can now access its old & new publications in digital form. The 1st edition from '76 is a treat with a full run down on Sheene's 1st 500 title.
