Why did I create this account? I am fascinated by the pressure (in-game + travel) demands on the top college basketball refs -- Roger Ayers is the poster child for this w/ his crazy schedule. And I feel like this is an under-covered aspect of college basketball, so here we are.
It only took until October 25th this season for Roger’s (arguably correctly officiated) 2018 Elite 8 block/charge call to come up! How I missed all you Duke fans over the summer 😘
Oh look here. Roger, Kipp Kissinger, and Doug Sirmons are working Duke at Kansas, about to tip on ESPN. Basically a national championship game caliber crew, for an October practice game… love it!
Another day, another major vs major exhibition game for Roger
Tonight’s officials for Notre Dame vs DePaul, hair gel required in the preseason:
Roger Ayers Jr.
Matt Potter
Mike Nardone

Virginia at Villanova for Roger tonight! Roger is on the full circuit of these high major exhibition games.
Pretty fair assessment
Replying to @AyersRefTracker
As an NC State season ticket holder, I see Roger 4-5 games a year. I actually think he calls a pretty good game overall. Don’t agree with a couple of his calls each time but he doesn’t make a spectacle of himself or take too much time in reviews. Overall he is pretty even handed even when a game is vs Duke or Carolina where less experienced officials give both team favorable calls all night long.
“Roger Ayers may be the best official in college basketball. A guy that every coach would want on his game.”
ESPNU for Roger right now! Let’s go.
No Roger at Cameron tonight for Tennessee/Duke. We have Ron Groover, Lee Cassell, and Courtney Green.
Odds we get Roger for this big exhibition game tomorrow night, @ConorONeill_DI? My ears have missed hearing Cory Alexander call a basketball game for the past 7 months, can’t wait 🤨

Our friend AJ Desai giving out a technical foul the other night in an exhibition game
Re-watching Georgetown-George Washington for the debut of a piece called Second Look.
When Dylan James got the technical for the "too small" gesture, Jimmy Patsos asked "are you going to call that in February" to which the ref responded "You already know the answer to that. I'm not even going to respond to that question." 😂😂😂😂
The exhibition/scrimmage circus continues on for Roger and co. This preseason feels like it’s been going on forever already and a big beneficiary to the extended schedule are the referees. More paychecks in relatively low pressure games.
Going to steal @NickPalazzolo5 Thunder in his absence.
Referees today for DePaul @ Loyola:
Roger Ayers
Tim Clougherty
Jeffrey Clark
Anyways I’m ready to move on from college football referees/replay folks messing things up, and get to college basketball referees/replay folks messing things up (in a few short weeks).
🙈🙈🙈 cmon man. If you’re gonna spend the time to formulate a tweet, at least put half a second of thought into it first.
Confused about the ND 1-second debate. Great, put a second back on the clock so BYU takes a knee and we are all happy?
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The final play was on First and Goal, Notre Dame would’ve still had the ball if a second was added back

Real talk, the crowd quickly rushing the field threw everything off with how the officials would normally operate in that situation
