As I conclude my first State Visit to Pakistan, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to my dear brothers, President Asif Ali Zardari (@PresOfPakistan) and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif (@CMShehbaz), the Government, and the brotherly people of Pakistan for the exceptional warmth, affection, and gracious hospitality extended to my wife, my delegation, and me. This visit marks a defining moment in Maldives–Pakistan relations. We have agreed to turn a new leaf in our relationship and usher in a new era of partnership. Our commitment is clear: to take our bilateral relations to unprecedented heights and transform our longstanding friendship into greater economic opportunities, shared prosperity, and tangible benefits for our peoples. At the heart of this new chapter is our shared determination to increase bilateral trade from USD 13 million to USD 200 million within the next two years. The successful Maldives–Pakistan Business Forum, which I was honoured to address alongside Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, has laid an important foundation for translating this ambitious commitment into concrete investments, stronger business partnerships, and meaningful economic cooperation. The exchange of 20 MoUs during this visit further demonstrates our resolve to move beyond aspirations towards practical cooperation and measurable results. I leave Islamabad with cherished memories, deep appreciation, and renewed confidence that we have laid the foundations for a stronger, more dynamic, and mutually beneficial partnership. Our six decades of friendship have brought us this far. Our shared vision and determination will now take us to new heights. Thank you once again, Pakistan, for your extraordinary friendship and hospitality.

Calling a Muslim leader "Yahoodi" or "kafir" as an insult is unacceptable in Islam and a great sin. Allah forbids believers from defaming one another (Qur'an 49:11). The Prophet ﷺ warned: "If a man says to his brother, 'O kafir,' then surely one of them is such" (Sahih al-Bukhari 6103; Sahih Muslim 60). A false accusation returns upon the accuser. Delighted to address the Maldives–Pakistan Business Forum today in Islamabad, as our two nations commemorate 60 years of diplomatic relations. My sincere gratitude to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif (@CMShehbaz) for gracing the Forum and highlighting the key priorities that will guide our economic partnership into a new chapter. The potential for bilateral trade and investment remains largely untapped. Yesterday, the Prime Minister and I committed to increasing bilateral trade to USD 200 million over the next two years. Today’s Forum marks an important first step towards realising that ambition. I warmly invite Pakistani businesses and investors to explore the wealth of opportunities the Maldives has to offer. I am confident that our renewed commitment will forge meaningful partnerships, attract investment, and deliver tangible benefits to both our nations. Let us build an economic partnership that reflects the strength of our enduring friendship, one that creates opportunities for our peoples, advances shared prosperity, and translates our common aspirations into lasting progress.

First Ladies of Pakistan and Maldives Emphasise Women’s Empowerment, Youth Development and Strong People-to-People Ties First Lady of Pakistan, Bibi Asifa Bhutto Zardari MNA, met with First Lady of the Republic of Maldives Sajidha Mohamed at Aiwan-e-Sadr today. The two First Ladies underscored the importance of women’s empowerment, youth development and greater people-to-people engagement as key pillars of Pakistan-Maldives bilateral relations. Welcoming her Maldivian counterpart, Bibi Asifa Bhutto Zardari expressed the hope that Pakistan’s warmth and hospitality would make her visit memorable and further strengthen the longstanding bonds of friendship, mutual respect, shared values and Islamic brotherhood between the two countries. The First Lady expressed satisfaction over expanding bilateral cooperation in education, healthcare, culture, youth development and people-to-people exchanges. She emphasised that both countries share a commitment to advancing women’s participation in public life and creating greater opportunities for their education, particularly through vocational training, leadership development and economic empowerment. Bibi Asifa Bhutto Zardari commended First Lady Sajidha Mohamed’s distinguished professional journey, particularly her leadership role at the Maldives Food and Drug Authority and her contributions to the public health response during the COVID-19 pandemic. She also appreciated her initiatives to empower women and youth, significantly reduce school dropouts and support vulnerable communities through innovative initiatives. The First Ladies agreed to strengthen mutual cooperation in women’s leadership, education, skills development, tourism and hospitality, modern and cost-effective agriculture, entrepreneurship, public health, social development and youth empowerment. Bibi Asifa Bhutto Zardari reaffirmed that women’s empowerment, poverty alleviation and maternal and child health remain among her foremost priorities. She highlighted the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), launched in 2008 to carry forward the vision of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, as Pakistan’s flagship social protection initiative, providing financial assistance to millions of vulnerable families, particularly women. She also outlined the transformative impact of the Benazir Nashonuma Programme in addressing malnutrition and childhood stunting during the critical first 1,000 days of life. “Our objective is to ensure that every woman lives with dignity and economic security, and every child receives a healthy start in life,” Bibi Asifa Bhutto Zardari stated. She observed that greater exchanges among students, experts, educational institutions and young professionals would help forge enduring ties between future generations. Both First Ladies emphasised the importance of closer cooperation between relevant institutions and civil society organisations working for the welfare of women, children and youth. They agreed that sustained engagement in these areas would further deepen the friendship between Pakistan and the Maldives and translate their shared aspirations into meaningful benefits for their peoples. Bibi Asifa Bhutto Zardari also presented pink ribbons to the First Lady of Maldives and members of her delegation as a gesture of solidarity and to raise awareness about breast cancer. The First Lady of Maldives was accompanied by Geela Ali, Minister of Health, Family and Welfare of the Maldives. Minister of State for Education and Professional Training Wajiha Qamar, Senator Rubina Khalid and Member of the National Assembly Shazia Marri were also present during the meeting.

"At this point in time, our trade volume stands at $13.9 million, which is just a fraction of our potential. Through our discussions today, I am very happy to announce, with the active and complete endorsement from both sides, that we will strive our best to jointly increase our bilateral trade volume from $13 million to $200 million in the next two years." ~Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif addresses the joint press stakeout after delegation level talks between Pakistan and Maldives
