The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, psc, FCSS, MNIPR, on 20 October 2026 received the Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Abeokuta Branch, Chief Kayode Aderemi, and members of the Branch’s Executive Committee at the Command Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta. The engagement reinforced the commitment of both institutions to professional collaboration, the protection of fundamental human rights and a more accountable criminal justice system.
During the visit, the NBA Chairman commended the CP’s leadership and raised concerns relating to judgment enforcement, alleged extortion and remand proceedings, while pledging the Bar’s continued support for the Command. Responding, CP Ojajuni described the Police and the Bar as indispensable partners in the administration of justice, stressing that constructive friction between both institutions promotes mutual growth and accountability when guided by professionalism, civility and respect for the rule of law. He also emphasised the need for proper verification of court judgments before police action and strict compliance with applicable laws in remand proceedings.
Reaffirming his zero-tolerance stance on extortion and police misconduct, the CP urged legal practitioners and members of the public to report errant officers through established channels, including the X-Squad and Complaint Response Unit (CRU), for appropriate action. He equally urged lawyers to avoid frivolous petitions that improperly criminalise civil disputes, procedural shortcuts and advice that encourages clients to disregard lawful police invitations. The NBA Chairman undertook to address these concerns within the Branch.
To sustain the engagement and ensure timely resolution of outstanding concerns, CP Ojajuni announced the establishment of a joint follow-up committee comprising representatives of the Command and the NBA, Abeokuta Branch. The committee will provide a structured platform for dialogue, follow-up and the resolution of professional disagreements before they escalate into unnecessary confrontations.
The Commissioner of Police reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to professionalism, respect for fundamental rights and accountability, emphasising that effective cooperation between the Police and the legal profession is essential to public confidence and the administration of justice.
The Ogun State Police Command remains committed to working with the NBA and other justice-sector stakeholders to uphold the rule of law, protect fundamental rights and strengthen public trust in policing and the criminal justice system.

I understand the grievances surrounding this incident, but coming online to spread unverified information and mislead the public is unacceptable.
I have been personally involved in this matter since yesterday when the incident occurred. I returned home past 12 a.m. this morning after ensuring that the individual involved was taken to the police station, where he was detained in my presence. I have continued to follow up on the matter since then.
This afternoon, I was at the hospital alongside the parents and friends of the accident victims, as well as the parent of the individual involved in the accident. In my presence, arrangements were made to transport the victims to Lagos for further medical attention, with the DPO of Ago-Iwoye also present.
As I write this, both victims are in Lagos receiving medical care, one at Gbobi and the other at a military hospital. The individual involved remains in police custody, and claims that he has been released are false.
I have also personally verified since yesterday that the individual involved is a student. However, this does not diminish the seriousness of the incident or the need for justice to take its proper course.
At this critical moment, our priority should be the recovery of the victims, the truth, and due process, not the spread of rumours or misleading narratives.
May God grant the victims complete healing and give their families the strength to navigate this difficult period.

He stressed that education, discipline, self-confidence and determination are essential to personal development and national progress, urging the girls to pursue their ambitions with integrity and purpose.
The students were also sensitised to the dangers of cultism, drug abuse, cybercrime, negative peer influence and other social vices capable of undermining their education, safety and future aspirations. They were encouraged to reject child marriage, speak up against abuse and seek assistance from trusted adults and appropriate authorities whenever their rights or safety are threatened.
In response, the students pledged to shun social vices, resist child marriage, uphold their rights and responsibilities, and remain committed to academic excellence.
