We know that protecting the forest and its wildlife isn't possible without the support of the communities living around it. This October, our team visited Kamurwasi Primary School in Masindi to interact with the P.7 class. We taught the pupils about Conservation, the ecological dangers of illegal activities and shared practical solutions their communities can adopt.
To make the learning experience interactive, the pupils competed in a quiz and educational board games. It was amazing to see the pupils participate with such energy and curiosity.
To the incredible P.7 candidates, we wish you the very best in your upcoming examinations. You are truly the future conservationists of our forests.
Happy 64th Independence Day, Uganda! 🇺🇬
As we embrace our sovereignty with hope and visionary leadership, Budongo Conservation Field Station reaffirms its commitment to protecting Uganda’s natural heritage, advancing scientific research, and nurturing a future where people and nature thrive together.
It was a pleasure to host undergraduate wildlife students from the University of Salford @salforduniwildlife for a 7-day field course.
Students got hands-on experience in tropical forest research methods, including aquatic sampling in the River Sonso, plant inventory, passive wildlife sampling, amphibian monitoring, and avian survey using mist-netting and canopy bird call tracking. Besides gaining ethnobotanical insights from our field assistant teams that have vast knowledge about the Budongo's flora and fauna as they explored the forest.

Community collaboration is fundamental to conservation success.
At the Human-Chimpanzee Conflict workshop, held on 27th August, 2026 in Hoima, BCFS, together with local leaders and other like-minded organizations, delved into discussions to understand and address the root causes of regional human-chimpanzee conflict.
The goal was to design actionable, sustainable strategies to keep both communities and forests safe amid the rising incidences of human wildlife conflicts in the Bunyoro region.
