I use Uber when I need to drop my car at the shop or pick it up.
But Uber seems to think I am ditching car ownership altogether and hits me with "$25 coupons" twice a week.
Nope. Just needed a ride. Not altering my lifestyle.
In California, we have electricity markets. CALISO (caiso.com/) runs a market where different generators bid to supply the power.
CALISO sets the max prices. It's meant to keep prices low. Say they cap the market at $2,000/MWh.
You find a way to make electricity out of fairy dust for $1/MWh. But why sell it at $2 for a 100% markup, when everyone else is flirting with the max?
Therefore, government setting the "max price" is really just setting the price.

Bob pulled the bullet fragment from Anne's arm with the pliers. She flinched but didn't scream. He dropped it into the tin cup with a tink.
"Why are you crying, Anne. I got the last of it."
"No, it's just... today is my birthday."
Bob stuck the tape sutures to close her wound. "Happy birthday, babe."
"Shut the fuck up, Bob."
No giant robots.
No boss babes.
Just a homeless guy and his dog.

Are we still paying people not to grow food to keep prices high?
Listen. Both my real followers.
The reason boomers don’t jump up and down and scream about inflation and affordability isn’t just our hips.
We lived through the Carter inflation.
It was as bad or worse than this.
Do you know what happens when home prices and interest rates go too high?
People start turning down jobs where the pay is too low.
People look for better paying jobs.
Banks lower rates (lending equals profit for them).
Home prices drop because they aren’t selling (buyers market).
New homes get built.
