Today is World Food Day, and BVEF is so proud to help support the Blue Valley Pantry, which helps solve two major community problems: hunger and lack of vocational opportunities for students who receive special education services in the Blue Valley School District. The Blue Valley Food Pantry is a community food pantry that is operated by students who receive special education services in the Blue Valley School District. In addition to feeding families in Blue Valley, the pantry is a job location dedicated to helping eligible high school students who are enrolled in the Career Development Opportunities Program (CDOP) to develop job skills necessary for competitive employment. Happy October and World Coffee Day! Your friends at BVEF can't think of a better spot to grab a cup of java than Oxford Middle School, where Cole’s Coffee Crew is changing students’ lives. Started by SPED Teacher Traci Cole, the Crew gives students a chance to learn job and life skills—one cup of coffee at a time. Every Friday, students in this program roll a specially designed coffee cart through the halls of Oxford Middle- taking orders, preparing drinks, greeting patrons, and offering heartfelt thanks. And if you stop by early enough, you might score a donut! For many years, BVEF has provided a sustaining grant to keep the Crew thriving. It’s not a large grant—and that’s exactly the point. Cole’s Coffee Crew shows how a small investment can create confidence, connection, and community for students eager to engage in school life. On the back of a t-shirt reads the following message: "In a sweet school in Overland Park, Kansas, an awesome group of kids got together to start a business. Thank you for supporting our Crew. Last year, they raised $60,000 and we are so grateful!
