Jamaica can be the next singapore it just need authoritarianism,a benevolent dictatorship and state led capitalism, an actually effective anti corruption mechanism....all of which am sure the average Jamaican would not like
Last week, at the 10th Caribbean Infrastructure Forum (CARIF) in Miami, roughly 300 leaders — including Jamaica’s own Prime Minister Dr Andrew Holness — from more than 30 countries came together to explore how governments, investors, development partners, and industry participants can move from infrastructure ambition to investable opportunity.
In his closing remarks at the end of his keynote speech and interview, Prime Minister Holness said, “Jamaica is safe for you to invest, and Jamaica will yield great returns. Jamaica will become the Singapore of the Caribbean.”

There's a particularly annoying historical irony to it. For years, Baltic and other Eastern European warnings about russia were often dismissed in parts of Western Europe as paranoia, russophobia or countries being unable to get over their history. Then Russia invaded Georgia, seized Crimea and launched the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Now some of the same broader discourse has flipped to: "Allow me to explain to the Baltics why russia is dangerous and where your vulnerabilities are"
