Want to know why Michelle Donelan was forced to make an extraordinary apology to two academics earlier today? It's a bizarre tale involving Policy Exchange, a secret government dossier and a libel case paid for by the taxpayer A short thread (1/10)

Such powerful words from @SangitaMyska today about her disappointment in Rishi Sunak ⏬️ @LBC
'How dare you gaslight your own people?!' @SangitaMyska reacts to Rishi Sunak's claim that the racism he once experienced 'would not happen to his children now'.

9. Pareidolia: We see whatever we look for. Survival favored the paranoid—those able to discern a predator from the vaguest outline. From these survivors we inherited hyperactive pattern-detection, which once saved us from the lions, but now curses us to see them even in the sky.

Please RT. DSIT has published 125 pages of amendments to DPDI to be debated next Wednesday (publications.parliament.uk/p…). It is unacceptable to have hardly any time for consideration and have no explanation for the changes, and no way for people to see what the changes means....

OpenAI's definition of the purpose of AGI (to surpass humans in most economically valuable tasks) is such a regressive take on AI that it goes back 100 years to the coining of the word "robot" in Metropolis - from the Czech "robota" meaning forced labour.

The fact that in the US just *1* wealthy person can make a call and offer millions to unseat an official they dislike tells you everything about the corruption of our politics. It also tells you why the tiny # of members who have managed to beat them are seen as such a threat.
NEWS - A Michigan businessman called Dem Senate candidate Hill Harper to offer $20M in campaign contributions if he agreed to drop out and instead mount a primary challenge to Rep. Rashida Tlaib, per source w/ direct knowledge of call w/ @UrsulaPerano politico.com/news/2023/11/22…

OBR draws out completely implausible implications -real terms cuts of 2.3-4.1%/yr after 2025 for unprotected departments 🤯 What's the plan here? Abolish the criminal justice system and public transport maybe? This should be the debate, not 'have they really cut taxes?'
Here are the implications for public services - a £19bn shortfall on the spending plans implied in March. If you think that was about £10bn short of the minimum required (per IFS) then the gap is now about £30bn. The chancellor gave away £27bn today
