UNHAPPY MARRIAGE: According to John Brice of USA TODAY Sports, the relationship between #USC and HC Lincoln Riley is becoming increasingly strained following the Trojans’ disappointing loss to Wisconsin. Brice reports that individuals with direct knowledge of the program believe the relationship between Riley and USC may be approaching a breaking point. “It’s an unhappy marriage.” That’s how one individual with direct ties to the USC football program described the current situation. Another individual familiar with the program offered an even more concerning assessment: “Let him lose to Ohio State, without a quarterback, and things are really going to get uncomfortable. It’s already clear this isn’t a fit for either side. And both sides know it.” According to Brice’s reporting, an individual familiar with Riley’s contract estimates that USC would owe approximately $57 million if the university decided to terminate his contract. However, the report also indicates that a potential contract provision could allow Riley to leave USC without owing a buyout. USC currently sits at 6–2, with its College Football Playoff hopes hanging in the balance. The Trojans now face a critical stretch of their schedule, including a showdown against No. 2 Ohio State this weekend and a November 14 matchup against defending national champion Indiana. 📸: Ben Liebenberg
