Someone please explain to me how the #ArchMadness new format helps the MVC get more bids, because try as I might, I cannot see how it could possibly impact that. If anything, I think, it makes it harder.

Source: Starting in 2027, the top two seeds in the Missouri Valley Tournament will receive automatic byes to the semifinals of Arch Madness. Last season, top-seeded Belmont lost in the quarterfinals to ninth-seeded Drake.

They built something really cool. Arch Madness became something that was special for a lot of people. A weekend you mark on your calendar every year and just hang out and watch basketball with people you enjoy. It became a cool community.......

Don't see how this helps get multiple bids either. I can see how it MIGHT help the top team get the one bid. In fact, I would say the MVC's best shot at multiple bids is actually having one really good team that loses at Arch Madness.

Counter-proposal. Leave the format as is. Women play round 1 and round 2 simultaneously with the men on Thursday and Friday at SLU arena. They jump in to Enterprise Center for the semifinals. Everyone wins.

Or if having both genders play at Enterprise is a dealbreaker, maybe this. Wednesday: Men and Women 7/10 and 8/9 Games. Thursday: Women's Quarterfinals Friday: Men's Quarterfinals Saturday: Both Semis Sunday: Both Championships

I didn't even think about that. Like, how is this better for the women too? 80% of the teams will now start on WEDNESDAY and then have a FULL DAY OFF in between. It is only going to be parents and rich retirees on Wednesday.

If u r a MVC Women’s fan I’m sorry. Imagine being expected to get a hotel Wed-Sun and one of those days being an off day. Fans already don’t come to the weekday games and now u expect them to take another day off and another hotel night with jacked up prices now. TERRIBLE

Analytically, no reason to protect the top two MVC teams for 2026-27. This league projects as having potentially a five-way tie at the top, maybe a multi-team tie for 2nd. A drastic bracket penalty for any team who loses a tiebreaker. In addition to the obvious Arch prestige hit.

I've gone 22 of the last 23 years, but I think this is my off ramp. Genuinely bummed. It was my favorite weekend of the year. I hope attendance craters. I suspect it will. This isn't about the women. Glad they get to go to St. Louis. It is about the brutal, stupid, format.

Hey, @MLB, the dumb scenarios that we have in front of us tomorrow would be avoided if we didn’t get rid of tiebreaker playoff games.

Boy this AL Wildcard race is crazy. Hey @MLB you know what would be awesome? If, in the case of a tie, they had a playoff for the spot instead of a series of tiebreakers. I bet the fans would really enjoy that. Might even be some of the most enduring moments in baseball history.
