Only 209 voting booths open today in New Zealand, versus 400+ on the first day of voting 2023 ( Electoral Commission figures)

The Electoral Commission pointed out this would be an issue when discussing dates with the PM. They recommend 2 other dates as better options but he chooses this one…..
At least a good half of the polling booths around the country is closed today due to Labour Day holiday. A great start to advanced voting, restrict voting on the first day, sums up this "FUCK UP" of a coalition government!

why are people dying in hospital toilets in 2026
Right now, the future of New Zealand is in your hands. Voting is now open. Before the last election inflation hit 7.3%, debt soared, crime exploded and education results were in decline. And now, three years later, our economy is growing faster than Australia and the UK, inflation is down, kids are back in school learning the basics, and there are fewer victims of crime. The choice this election is clear: keep going with National’s plan for a stronger economy and a more secure future, or go back to Labour’s reckless spending and high taxes. Let’s not leave the job half done. Party Vote National today.

all of the people who came up to me and others in line at the polling booth and found out they couldn't enrol were elderly, mainly white + one older chinese couple. i don't think it's unreasonable to think that they might not have heard about the new change to enrolment rules

Did you tell them that under the Electoral Act, they were required to enrol once they turn 18?

Its useful when idiots like this describe luxon and goldsmith's view of the world accurately - they think voting should be difficult, that you need to "earn" it through effort, that it should not be available to the lazy, the disorganised, or uninformed

18 years olds can go online and book out a concert in 10 minutes but can't enroll in over 10 months. Yep personal responsibility is the only reason here. Trying to blame others is just an excuse and wanting a nanny state.

Yes - they’re making it hard for people to vote. To cast an early vote you have to search the Vote NZ map and click on each location until you find a booth open for early vote. And they’re not all open at the same time or days! No doubt a skinny budget thanks to this government.
I always vote on the first day. Today is the first day of voting so I went to the Wainuiomata advance voting place at the hall. It is closed. A disgrace. Along with early roll closing it is looking like the voter suppression you expect from Trump or Hungary not here in Aotearoa.
