Sedge Warbler we ringed at Belvide Reservoir #Staffs on 14 August 2024 was found predated in Eleanora's Falcon nest in Canary Islands on 20 September, 2759km away & 37 days later. The Falcons delay breeding to coincide with autumn migration of passerines @_BTO @WestMidBirdClub

On 27/06/2019 we colour-ringed 4 Common Tern chicks at Belvide Reservoir. Virtually 5 years to the day 0.01 was resighted at Blithfield Reservoir on 26/06/2024 by @RingersWm Both reservoirs are @WestMidBirdClub reserves #BirdRinging @_BTO

We've recently caught Siskins ringed up to 1,500km away in Czech Republic, Germany, Lithuania & Poland in south Staffordshire & had birds we've ringed here recaught up to 500km away in Aberdeen & Northumberland. All part of same continued irruption or different populations? @_BTO

A few hundred more Siskin ringed & now we've caught a bird that was ringed even further east in Lithuania, a distance of some 1,600km (1,000 miles). The ring reads ZOOL MUS (Zoological Museum) on top line LITHUANIA in the middle & ring code at the bottom.

We've recently caught c2,000 Siskins in S Staffs as part of a major influx, but where from? Clues came with controlling 3 ringed birds: from Czech Republic, Germany & Poland. No doubt many others are also from Central Europe. Anyone experiencing the same? tinyurl.com/46tfcwww
