This video is incredible.
Everyone should RETWEET it so the whole *world* sees it.
Listening in at #DERVOS and cannot help but think that problems don’t change, but technology does.
We underestimate the impact of technological change over the long-term and overestimate it in the short-term. Regulation has to bridge that gap and regulators are struggling.
“If we build one too many transmission lines or conduct one too many pilots that do not go exactly as planned, it is ok. We should not let the perfect be the enemy of the good.”
-paraphrased @ClementsFERC at #DERVOS
Great quote (paraphrased) to inspire positive change from @leahstokes - “If you have a car in your house, you are running your own little fossil power plant. The easiest way to make a difference is buy an EV, and get out of that business.”

I am all for nuclear, but please do more due diligence. Clear-cutting has not been required since at least 2012. renewableenergymagazine.com/…
If pictures are your thing, look up "wind farm in forest." There are plenty of images with flora pre-dating the turbines.
Transmission and distribution costs comprise a growing share of the retail #electricity bill. bit.ly/4daTX53
Has anyone done a premise-level analysis of costs to serve versus revenue similar to @StrongTowns municipal tax revenue work (see below)? bit.ly/4ciJyCZ
Eesh…and this is not what anyone meant when they pushed for companies to focus on mental health…

This is a big story and as usual, @jeffsaintjohn at @CanaryMediaInc is masterful in explaining it.

#energytwitter, I got this great shot of the Northern Lights + @warrenec grid infrastructure last night during the solar storm.
What shots did you capture?

@mikemunsell, I saw your great pics from last night and will raise you this one!
There is not a single legacy automaker that invested in #batterystorage manufacturing for #electricvehicles as a strategy to expand their business into the power industry.
Was this due to group-think, too much competition, denial of growth prospects, or something else?

Solar has continuously fallen in price following scaling laws for half a century.
I'm sorry. I just don't buy that anybody can look at the data and in good faith conclude "solar is all subsidies"
Tell me. What has a bigger impact?
- a 30% tax credit in one country
- the 19 times prices fell by 30% in the last 50 years
Globally, across decades, different countries leading manufacturing, subsidies popping up and going away, etc. solar costs have steadily followed scaling laws.
How much of the 99.9% drop in cost do you attribute to these "secret subsidies"?
Is it all some global conspiracy to make solar look cheap while people actually lose thousands of dollars on every panel?
These arguments were absurd in the 90's. Today?? Give me a break.
The Venn Diagram of “Demand Response” and “VPPs” is a VPP circle within a larger DR circle for utilities. Utilities view anything behind the meter as baseline load or voodoo that changes that baseline load (doesn’t matter if it is shifting load, storage, or gen). #gridedge

It’s always an exciting day when our US Solar Market Insight report is released! 2023 was an incredible year for the US solar industry – a record-shattering 32.4 GW were installed, 51% more than 2022. And we expect 17% growth in 2024. But what does the future hold? 🧵
What is driving #ElectricVehicle depreciation:
- Lower prices and improved tech are making it easier to buy new and lowering the anchor price for used.
- The #EVs that are most commonly sold are disproportionately luxury models which experience the greatest declines in value.

The most beautiful story about EV's (old but gold):
The world's largest electric vehicle does not need to be charged.
And thats not all, it even returns 77 megawatt hours back to the grid every year.
The world's largest electric vehicle on wheels is the new eDumper dump truck. Due to the special area of application and local conditions, this electric vehicle does not have to be charged on the power grid and even feeds around 77 megawatt hours into the power grid every year.
Illnau (Switzerland). The electric transformation not only affects electric cars, but also various other vehicles such as ships and airplanes. But other means of transport, such as dump trucks, can also be powered electrically - as the eDumper from Switzerland impressively demonstrates.
The dump truck, which weighs around 110 tons (fully loaded), runs purely electrically and helps save around 130 tons of CO2 or over 50,000 liters of diesel every year. In a quarry in Biel, Switzerland, the eDumper transports around 60 tons of lime and marl rock from the higher mining area to a lower transport system with each trip. The eDumper is electrically powered for empty travel uphill. When going downhill, the lithium batteries recharge by recuperating the braking energy and thus generate more than enough charging current for the return journey. Due to the 13 percent gradient, the eDumper can only reach its destination when fully loaded by braking.
The eDumper produces around 200 kWh around 20 times a day, which, after deducting the drive energy required by the vehicle and the operation of the cooling systems and hydraulic pumps, which should not be underestimated, results in an annual surplus of around 77 megawatt hours, which is fed into the public power grid.
Why is there no serious discussion about reforming gas taxes?
They rarely are raised and don’t correspond to actual wear and tear on the roads as they once did with hybrids and EVs. The simplest reform would be a tax on mileage with a weight modifier assessed at inspection.

Time to bust a myth! 🚗💨 Older cars aren’t the ‘greener’ option.
The data shows that EVs like the Tesla Model Y & Nissan Leaf break even on CO2 emissions after just 20-32k miles.
Post that, it’s all savings for the planet! 🌍 #EVsGoFurther #SustainableDriving #ClimateAction
