A few thoughts on the announcement that the Jackdaw gas field development will go ahead 🧵 You'll hear claims today arguing we need Jackdaw for various reasons. Primarily some combination of energy security, perhaps cheaper bills and jobs. We should be sceptical of them.

Happy to be part of this @JournalSpectre roundtable on imperialism! My piece “the money fetish and empire” intervenes in the debates about the alleged imminent fall of the US Dollar by bringing in the connection between world money and global value relations
This fall's Spectre is a double issue featuring our roundtable on imperialism today with Scott Aquanno, Adam Hanieh, Kevan Harris ( @kevankharris ), Ingrid Harvold Kvangraven ( @ingridharvold ), Steve Maher ( @SteveMaher18 ), and Sirisha C. Naidu.

New #openaccess article just dropped in the APSR! Leah Downey & yours truly on why people should stop using “democratize” when they really mean increasing market access. Looking at you, economists! 👀 Also, what would actual “democratization” look like when applied to finance?

I wrote a critical review of Timothy Mitchell's fascinating and frustrating new book: The Alibi of Capital. There's no paywall, which I'm really pleased about!

Why has Eurocentrism and decolonization come to be associated with identity and location rather than with capitalism, displacing more radical decolonization efforts? I argue that it's linked to what Samir Amin calls 'inverted Eurocentrism'. New article👇 onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/…

The most sophisticated theories of racialized and gendered capitalism discuss the “articulation” of capital and difference. But how does "articulation" take place? And why are certain "articulations" of race, gender, and capital so enduring? My new article on these questions...
