To better understand the political vibe of voters, I check election results by how many people voted for the various options and how a proportional electoral system might have affected the outcome.
This approach seems to me to reveal that almost always what political pundits on programs like @PnPCBC and @CTV_PowerPlay are opining is (not intentionally) misleading people.
Seats won is bad metric for gauging voter intent.
On Saturday in BC, for example, the @Conservative_BC lost less than the @bcndp. The major win was an artifact of the First-Past-the-Post electoral system and certainly not an accurate representation of voter intent.
Post hoc ergo propter hoc means that until one of the major, reputable polling firms surveys people who voted for the @bcndp and @Dave_Eby in 2024 and not on Saturday 24 October we won't have a valid sense of why the @Conservative_BC now has a majority. When pundits say it's because Eby called an early election they're trafficking in fallacious post hoc 'reasoning'.

Daniel Levy | Former Israeli Peace Negotiator | US/Middle East Project (@USMEP):
Netanyahu did not alone commit genocide for 3 years. He did not alone maintain decades of illegal occupation. It was system-wide.
Eisenkot was part of it & served in the military. He sat in the emergency unity security cabinet after Oct. 7 - during the genocide.
Israeli generals, soldiers & judges - all part of a system-wide mobilization. Dissenting voices existed but remained marginal.
This is textbook, or should I say bible, @MarkJCarney. Always--yes, always--Carney puts the interests of big money and the people who have it over regular people like most Canadians.
Sure, corporations and their shareholders get better access to the EU if Carney gets his way, but it doesn't mean a nurse, teacher, actor, or pipefitter will.

You don't have to squint too much to notice that it sure seems like caring people are winning more elections these days than the cruel people. Not a sweep, to be sure, but tidying up in places. The latest in my world is Guelph and Toronto.

When Ted Turner asked Carl Sagan whether he was a socialist, Sagan offered an answer that captures the true meaning of a civilized society.
None of my business as an Ontario voter, but I'd suggest the people running the @bcndp deep soul search about why 275,206 people who voted for them in 2024 didn't vote for them on Saturday, October 24.
The @Conservative_BC party didn't 'win' the election; the @bcndp and @Dave_Eby lost it and, going forward, it would helpful if they figured out why.
The reasons why the @bcndp lost might help the federal @NDP and @avilewis plan for the next federal election.

I believe this will be considered one of the most important videos in US history from this time.
The BC election was a dismal display of democracy, to be sure. Very low turnout.
The winner was decided by who lost the least number of votes since 2024.
275,206 2024 NDP voters told @Dave_Eby 'screw you' and stayed home.
As for the Conservatives, only 50,577 of their 2024 voters told them to bugger off.
And the @BCGreens? 23,062 more voters went for them than they did in 2024.
The Greens improved their standing with voters since 2024, while both the NDP and Conservatives lost standing.
Just wondering if it's wrong of me to assume that if someone has an Israeli flag 🇮🇱 in their X signature that they are in favor of killing Palestinians.
Israel's elections are being held on Tuesday the 27th of October. It seems that no matter who forms government, they will work hard to accelerate the genocide of Palestinians.
I'm not at all well-informed about BC provincial politics, but my impression is that today's latest version of the BC Conservatives is that it is, essentially, the old Christy Clark Liberal Party of British Columbia. Set me straight, anyone.
So, that's the Alberta referendum vote done, and now the BC election is wrapped; so today--Sunday, Oct 25 2026--we have the runoff election in Brazil, expect results soon after 4:00PM 'Ontario' time.
I understand that the majority of Canadians approve of Prime Minister @MarkJCarney, notwithstanding how bad Carney's policies are and how he repeatedly fails to keep his promises and commitments.
Perhaps the evidence that will come out in this court case will convince a few Canadians who now "approve" of Carney just how bad Carney is for most Canadians.

And yet Carney is letting it happen.
He has the power and responsibility to enforce the Canada Health Act when premiers attack public healthcare
The buck stops with Carney, and he's teaming up with Conservatives to kill healthcare in Canada
I'm expecting (and hope I'm wrong) that Prime Minister @MarkJCarney will again cave to President @realDonaldTrump, abandon Canada's decades-long objection to the US/Cuba embargo, and either abstain or vote against "The United Nations ... vote next week on a motion Cuba has put forward nearly every year since 1992. It calls for the termination of 'the economic, commercial and financial embargo imposed by the United States of America against Cuba.'"
@MarkJCarney is proving to be the weakest, most politically cowardly, and morally bereft Prime Minister in Canadian history.
For Cuba and Canadian's sake I sure hope my low opinion of Carney proves to be unfounded.
