That's how both my parents died from cancer—they couldn't even get it diagnosed and they both knew something was wrong.
And it's why I'm so afraid after nearly a year of respiratory problems that have gotten much worse in the last couple months. Can't get a CT scan.

Managed to find the owl again WITH a camera!
It had moved a bit further back from the main path—good. Because they’re particularly susceptible to harassment, I quickly took the shot and left before attracting attention.
If certain members of the paparazzi find it, it’s doomed.

My new medication is helping my respiratory issues, but still no clue about the cause.
Doctors are trying to speed up the CT scan, but I may have to get it in the US. I can’t afford it but would pay to get it here if it were an option, but our system prefers that people die.
I license my photography through stock sites. Or at least I post it for sale—I get very few sales now despite countless years and dollars invested into my photography. Every time I think the industry has hit a new low, another blow comes.

Zookeepers at the National Zoo say Dolly’s name matches the bold and feisty personality of their “most vocal” recent red panda cub.
Roughly 65% of the 20,000 votes cast were in favor of the name honoring the late Dolly Parton. wapo.st/4z3YAJd

Besides immigration, the next great ideological battle in Canadian politics will be between NIMBYs and YIMBYs.
What's interesting about this particular fight is that it does not fit seamlessly into the traditional political divide in Canada the same way immigration does.
Many conservatives, for example, fantasize about building sixplexes in laneways attached to 16-plexes in quiet, detached single-family-home neighbourhoods.
There's also a strange reaction to this AI-slop picture on the right, where many are racing to show their support for the idea of allowing retail businesses to operate inside quiet residential neighbourhoods.
With most YIMBY ideas and the strange ritualistic endorsement that people display on social media, there's always a sense of quiet hypocrisy. We all know that most outspoken YIMBYs would actually be deeply upset if a giant data centre were built in their neighbourhood. We all know that if the choice were theirs, they would probably not live in a home next to an extremely busy corner store or restaurant.
There's always nuance to this debate, and ultimately major projects and housing do need to be built.
I look forward to seeing how this great debate plays out over the next 5 years.
