I was fully prepared to hate this bc commercialism but I can't. I would take more Muppet Christmas Carol sponsored by Enron
‘THE MUPPET CHRISTMAS CAROL’ has returned with a new Christmas commercial for Walmart. Starring Walton Goggins as Ebenezer Scrooge.

as a single childless woman, you can show up for countless bridal showers, weddings, baby showers, kid's birthday parties, anniversary dinners etc. but if you want even a modicum of reciprocation suddenly it's mortifying and beyond the pale. lol ok.
My friend wants to plan a couples, no-kids weekend getaway, splitting the cost of a large AirBNB, in January for her 30th birthday. I really do not love this idea (husband is mortified), neither to spend the money nor to get someone to take the toddler for 3 days. It would be a 2.5 hour drive away for us, too, so it’s not like we’re close if something happens. I haven’t been away from him for even 1 night yet and he still just seems so young! It would be very hard to leave him for that long. Am I just a party pooper who needs to get over it? Genuine question. Like I actually need advice here guys

Important reminder a week from the election. Three cognitive biases explain almost everything in electoral politics: 1. Confirmation bias 2. Recency bias 3. #DunningKruger
This paper answers why confident idiots run the world. Cornell University published a psychological paper that explains every terrible boss, every loud influencer, and every broken corporate hierarchy. It’s called “Unskilled and Unaware of It.” they tested participants across logic, grammar, and humor to measure the gap between actual performance and self-perception. And the results are wild. participants scoring in the bottom 12th percentile consistently believed they were operating in the 62nd percentile. they were not lying. they were literally incapable of recognizing their own incompetence. the paper revealed a brutal paradox: the exact skills required to master a domain are the exact same skills required to accurately evaluate your own competence in that domain. if you lack the skill, you inherently lack the cognitive capacity to realize you are failing. this creates a dangerous systemic loop. the incompetent are blessed with absolute, blinding certainty. their brain protects them from their own ignorance, allowing them to speak first, demand authority, and never second-guess their decisions. meanwhile, the actual experts suffer the exact inverse. top performers in the study consistently underestimated their rank. because a task was easy for them, they falsely assumed it was easy for everyone else. they hesitate. they obsess over nuance. they assume they have nothing unique to add. we are biologically wired to confuse confidence with competence. the loudest person in the room gets promoted, gets funded, and gets the microphone, not because they know what they are doing, but because they are physically incapable of seeing what they don't. the only defense mechanism is building systems that stop rewarding absolute certainty and start demanding proof of work.

Americans are entirely incapable of understanding nudity in any mature or non-sexual context. Probably one reason Fielder did this
This new Elizabeth Holmes film is killing me. She is manipulative as hell. I don't think she's crazy. She's actually really smart and conniving. That new man/baby daddy of hers is also a special case. Spoiler: there's a random frontal of a flaccid 🍆 for no damn reason

Just the line "Billy declined the money" sets off a series of at least ten subsequently unanswerable questions
Spoiler ycse So it’s not the norm for documentary subjects to get paid??? I can’t imagine committing to that sort of time expenditure & incredibly intrusive filming, with no control over the product, and not getting compensated at all

After staring mouth agape and speechless when the credit rolled, the first thing I thought was "it's going to be wild to see this again." The second thing I thought was "it's going to be wild to see this a third time."
just saw 'you can see everything' for a second time and had an entirely different reaction to the first half of the film goddamn art is freaking cool sometimes

But are you sure about that? She is an actress, after all!
It really can’t be overstated how [REDACTED] is the heart of You Can See Everything—in part because she is the *only* character who openly wrestles with her own actions and potential regrets, expresses anger & uncertainty, and admits to lying sometimes. She’s a real human being!

So you really CAN see everything So long as someone does the chemistry (Didn't think of the title in this way until hours after)

God I didn't even catch this, I just thought I missed it Folie a deux
do we think billy and elizabeth really saw the green ray

I alternated between mouth completely agape, horrified face, and literally covering my eyes with my hands When the credits rolled, the guy next to me just put his head in his hands and bent over and sighed really loud
Just saw “You can see everything” Don’t know if it’s the greatest movie I’ve ever seen (maybe yes?). I’ve never been with my mouth open, engaged, shocked & mesmerized for 3 hours like that, ever. Masterpiece of our times. Give it all the awards. Nathan Fielder is god tier.

The swimming shots were masterful. Wait, he did go swimming with her after all? Wait, is that Liz or Amanda? Does it matter? Wait, does Nathan have muscles? Much to consider
my three favorite parts of You Can See Everything: > seeing a WeWork with a view that nice > the initial distant shot of two people swimming in the ocean, then zooming in at the very end > the title hinging on the word “can,” coupled with her claims about Theranos and her text "FYI you can totally see everything"

And your husband then agrees with this random man (he hates) right in front of you! On camera!
Imagine you are a woman who has just committed wire fraud, you are married to the poncyest man in the world, you are going to federal prison in less than a month and some random man spends 3 excruciating, uninterrupted minutes explaining "who's on first" to you. In your own home

It is the best movie of the year, and probably the best documentary ever made
YOU CAN SEE EVERYTHING is just a stunning movie. The best of the year. So much to say about it, so probably best to say nothing. (Corrected.)

I was just about to tweet how there's no wrong takes on this movie
I think Nathan Fielder did a really good job with You Can See Everything. Especially in showing how unwilling Amanda Seyfried was to acknowledge her own role in potentially harming another person. He had everyone looking at one another and questioning everyone else’s intentions, while seemingly being completely unwilling to examine their own behavior. I thought Amanda’s resistance to doing that was especially revealing I also obviously think Billy is terrible. I think he’s cruel and exploitative. I’ve seen Elizabeth’s tweets for years and thought they were her. Finding out they’re his was jarring and sad. But as much as I dislike Billy, I think he made a very good point. Why would he care what Amanda thinks? She’s an actress who has profited from portraying his wife as a bizarre and dishonest and manipulative freak to an audience that is largely voyeuristic, incredibly binary in their moral thinking, and seemingly unable to separate fiction from reality I don’t think that Amanda needed to defend Elizabeth or excuse anything she’s done but I do think it’s bizarre how unwilling she seemed to consider that she might have contributed to another person’s suffering

Other takes on the movie makes me realize how finely attuned my bs meter is. Would've taken 45 secs for me to clock that they're both pathological liars. Fielder, whose livelihood is quite literally to make people wonder if he's joking or not, doesn't come off as believably duped
YCSE is art. A surprising 3hr rumination on tautology, semantics & epistemology. Does objective truth exist? Is someone lying if they believe it? Can you ever know? But if you work in a biz w practiced liars you'll struggle w the film's insistence on this ambiguity. They're nuts
