There is a lot of branding on #Araku #coffee that celebrates women's labour. But did you know that the women who grow, harvest and process the coffee are not considered farmers under the state's vague definition of "farmer", which is linked to land ownership? (1/2)

What’s happening in #AndhraPradesh reminds me of a conversation a friend and I had with a cab person in Delhi. Although he supports the student movement, he said he doesn’t see SIR as a mudda. “Elections in our villages have never really been free and fair.”
Amid alleged police restrictions and attacks by TDP workers, Guntakal YSRCP in-charge Nairuthi Reddy resorted to an extraordinary measure to file her nomination. She tied her nomination papers around her waist, wore a burqa, and made her way to the nomination centre to submit her candidature. A shocking reflection of the challenges faced by opposition candidates in exercising their democratic right to contest elections. #LocalBodyElections2026 #AndhraPradesh #CBN #TDP #NaraLokesh #PawanKalyan #Janasena #YSJagan #YSRCP

Should a certificate in sports be enough to land a government teacher job? Andhra Pradesh’s answer, under its Sports Policy 2024-2029, was largely yes, until the government reversed course. ✍️@BhaskarBasava thehindu.com/education/can-s…

The Supreme Court has made itself irrelevant to human rights in India and that is a tragedy but also a wake up call. Middle class respectability activism which has relied on PILs as a substitute for political and educational work can’t take anything further.

Journey of a slander. It was the BJP IT cell which began asking how anyone with a phone and a mic can be called a journalist. This was around Oct 2. Fews day later it was used by Delhi police. Then Godi anchors used this line on TV. Now the Chief Justice.

The cult of personality plays straight into the government’s hands. It reduces a mass movement to a few leaders, making it easier to defame, deflect, corrupt or control the movement.

After the West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer and a BJP spokesperson questioned DeKoder's earlier SIR analysis, Prannoy Roy (@PrannoyRoy7749) responds with a closer look at the data. Is counting seats won enough to understand SIR's electoral impact? What does the vote swing reveal that the seat tally doesn't? Wtf inc.
#Bengaluru police detained dozens of people protesting against #SIR & #GyaneshKumar in a state with a ruling Congress govt, whose leaders claim to be against SIR too. Their reason? A technicality. That protests are only allowed in Freedom Park, not even 10 metres outside it.

the irony is that fact checks these days are themselves either misleading or disinforming.

During the framing of the Const, Somnath Lahiri explicitly said that the fundamental rights chapter was written from the perspective of a police constable. In the 1980s, KG Kannabiran was writing that the Sup Ct treats the restrictions as “fundamental” instead of the rights.

How the SIR deletions affect the Bengal election results? Were certain categories of voters targeted and if so, what were the consequences? Does the analysis of Bengal elections suggest any lessons for the forthcoming state elections? Prannoy Roy (@PrannoyRoy7749) uses data on SIR deletions and swings in votes to answer these and other questions about the impact of SIR on the Bengal elections. If anything, Elon is a bigger oligarch than Adani or Ambani. He's as much a crony capitalist as either of them. He was even put in charge of a US government initiative called DOGE until he fell out with Trump. After Trump's second election victory, Elon was invited to share the stage with him, only to perform what appeared to be a Nazi salute. He continues to give the worst kind of people free rein on this platform, and is a major reason why right-wing hate has proliferated across the world. He has played, and continues to play, a significant role in the global rise of fascism, while advocating policies that enrich the rich and make the poor poorer. Piggybacking on Elon to make your argument is a terrible idea.

Freelance journalism hasn’t changed a bit. It’s getting worse. Fewer places to pitch to, money that’s more or less the same as it was 10 years ago lol, nobody to brainstorm with, and absolutely no safety net. So disappointingly unsustainable!

This statement from Neha underlines the point for those who look at the students’ movement and say their demands are narrow, leaving the big fishes to continue swimming untouched. (1/2)
All those doing the BJP's dirty work for it like Gyanesh Kumar, pls know that this will happen to each one of you! It's time to desert the BJP camp or you will all face the people's judgement.

Perhaps they are narrow, but they are realistic, and their ripple effects are far beyond. This can be seen from the interpretation of what Neha puts “those doing the dirt work will not be saved by the political bosses.” (2/2)

I spoke to the BJP booth level agent who tried to file Form-7 in bulk: 30 in one booth in Musheerabad AC. He said that booth level agents got pre-printed Form-7’s from the BJP constituency in-charge. He says he has withdrawn the Form-7 applications in his booth.
