Ancient vector fields excavated close to @days_europe 2025 in Thessaloniki. It was a fun conference (just too short), see you in Lisbon next year!

I am intrigued by the (approximate) symmetries. In that spirit, have enjoyable holidays and all the best for 2025!

Fantastic view from the train back home from my Tokyo office. Extremely grateful for the hospitality at Science Tokyo—and elsewhere—through the end of the year.

The scientific program of the MSCA-DN BeyondTheEdge is kicking off now at @VU_Science with an introduction to globally coupled systems by A Pikovsky. Fantastic to see the project become reality! @BeyondEdge_MSCA @AmsterdamDyn

Interaction order and symmetry breaking in epidemic models can give rise to multistability between distinct endemic states. Bifurcations elucidate how. The preprint arxiv.org/abs/2410.15330 gets a bit waffly on p7 but overall a fun collaboration with @istvanzkiss and P Simon!

We now have prints of "Bear Networks"! Please stop by @VUMathematics at @VU_Science and take one. This fun project with P Mulas and @graphaellamulas is also available digitally at doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.11190…. Made possible through funding by @MSCActions (cordis.europa.eu/project/id/…).
Bear Networks: A book on networks, graphs, hypergraphs, and synchronization for small and big bears. Fun project with P Mulas and @graphaellamulas now available at doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.11190…. And some print copies available soon at @VUMathematics if you stop by.

I got a Twitter ad from @ElsevierNews. I do hope that was a real success story. And not something like: “Because of publishing there I get a lot of spam emails telling me how interesting my research is and ‘inviting’ me to pay a lot of money to attend a dubious conference.”

in Portland for #SIAMDS23. My hotel room features a blackboard door and chalk is included. Awesome! Anyone wants to come over to do some math?

Symmetry observation of the day. The symmetry of these khakis is not invariant under flipping them upside down: Four-fold from the top, five-fold from the bottom.

I started teaching in Amsterdam in the middle of the lockdown. Zoom lectures from the living room that I shared with my 4mo old. But despite the circumstances, the students were fantastic and engaging! I am humbled to have to take care of this for the next year, a nice surprise.
