The Whistlers in the Dark by Victoria Williamson is a story set across the Antonine Wall, 158 AD. A kitchen sink drama book with lots of detail of life at the time - Roman and Damnonii. Really enjoyed it - great characters too.
A wee plug for the lovely @Kinneil Museum, which is threatened with closure in 2026. It details Roman history, plus the story of the wider Bo'ness area. Admission is free. Details on the Kinneil and Falkirk Council websites. Pop in. kinneil.org.uk/museum/
Folks in Bo'ness are big advocates for their history. They lobbied for a proper replica of their iconic Bridgeness Slab to be installed in the town and have now produced a guide to the Roman @AntonineWall on the @Bonessnetwork website . . . .

Remains of the Roman fortlet at Kinneil, near Bo’ness on the Antonine Wall - the only example of an Antonine Wall fortlet which is still visible. 📸 My own. #RomanFortThursday #RomanScotland #Archaeology

Said to be one of the finest Roman artefacts found in Britain, dating back to AD 142, the Bridgeness Roman distance slab resides in the National Museum of Scotland, discovered in Bo'ness. It commemorated the construction of the eastern end of the Antonine Wall.

This carving of Hercules was found in a garden near Falkirk in 1987 and was probably attached to a shrine or similar structure 💪
Hercules was used as a symbol of victory in the Roman Empire and statues were built to mark military triumphs as early as 305 BC (c.2,300 years ago).

ALT A stone carving of Hercules, found in a back garden in the village of Laurieston (just east of Falkirk) in 1987. It is made of local sandstone, in relief, and was probably attached to a structure such as a shrine. Hercules is shown bearded with thick locks of hair and a muscular body holding a club in his right hand
