HEARBREAKING: Southern Nazarene University sophomore defensive back Tyler Ulrich has died five days after suffering a traumatic injury during a game last Saturday. The 21-year-old from Azle, Texas, was hurt in a 49-14 loss to Ouachita Baptist. The game was delayed nearly an hour while he received medical attention before being taken to the hospital. He died Thursday morning. His father, Mark Ulrich, wrote: "It is with a heavy heart I am writing to say the Lord called Tyler this morning at 11:13am." Head coach Dustin Hada said: "Man of God, ultimate example of quiet strength, loyal, worker, joyous. That's who Tyler was!!" Ulrich was a finance major in his third season. He had 16 career starts and ranked third on the team with 36 tackles this year. The school has canceled its next game. President Keith Newman said he died surrounded by family, teammates, and friends. Pray for the Ulrich family, his friends and his teammates.
