What does YouTube know that historians don't? "I'm already Senate approved" became "I'm already planning a coup" Was Jefferson planning to overthrow the nascent Washington administration and establish a dictatorship of the liberatrian Yeomen farmers? youtu.be/SHmIaYI4EQc?is=vZHP…

A digital facial reconstruction of a high-status Mycenaean woman who lived around 3,500 years ago during the Late Bronze Age... This woman lived in a world of palaces, bronze weapons, kings, and warriors — the same world that later inspired the legends of Agamemnon, Achilles, and Helen of Troy. Her remains were discovered inside a royal tomb at Mycenae, and today, through a modern digital reconstruction led by Emily Hauser, we can finally look directly into the face of a real Mycenaean woman. What makes this reconstruction so striking is not beauty alone, but familiarity. This is not an idealized marble statue or a fantasy character from Hollywood. It is the face of a real Bronze Age Greek woman reconstructed through skull scans, anthropology, and advanced digital imaging. Her expression feels alive, human, and almost modern, collapsing thousands of years of history into a single glance. The discovery reminds us that Mycenaean Greece was not merely myth or poetry. Behind the Homeric epics stood real people of flesh and blood who laughed, ruled, feared, loved, and fought. Archaeology, frescoes, DNA studies, and modern facial reconstructions continue to confirm the distinct identity of the Mycenaean Greeks as a people of the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean world. It also raises an important cultural question. Greek mythology and history are increasingly reshaped by modern entertainment industries that often place marketing and political trends above historical authenticity. Helen of Troy and the heroes of the Trojan War are not blank canvases for commercial reinvention detached from their cultural origins. Creative freedom is one thing; presenting distortion as historical reality is another. As Dr. Emily Hauser said after seeing the reconstruction: “She’s incredibly modern. She amazed me… These digital reconstructions convince us that the heroes of the Trojan War were real people… We can see the real face of a Bronze Age queen — and it really is a face worth launching a thousand ships for.” According to Dr. M.F. Khan, "Greece does not need its past rewritten to become meaningful. Its civilization is already one of the most powerful, authentic, and influential legacies in human history"... #archaeohistories

While your high school geometry teacher promised you would use calculus in everyday life, they conveniently forgot to mention it would be used to calculate exact topping-to-crust ratios. Enjoy your pizza this Friday! #Math #Mathematics #Geometry #PizzaLogic #MathType

It undermines their whole case that prediction markets are *totally different* from gambling when "Fanduel Sportbook and Casino" purposely sends an ad that "Fanduel" is now legal in Florida that shoves any identification of prediction markets into the fine print.

Massive. New Harvard study finds that AI-written paper reviews now beat the best human peer reviews on every measure the authors tested. Peer review is slow and often misses errors. Earlier studies concluded AI should only assist human reviewers, not replace them. They used 134 reviews from rapidPeer, a Harvard service that pays expert reviewers well. Claude Opus 4.8 reviewed the same 1124 papers, and GPT-5.5 plus 3 former journal editors judged the pairs blind. GPT-5.5 picked the AI review in all 132 decided pairs, and the editors picked it 87% of the time. Only 5.5% of the AI's claims about the paper were wrong, versus 15.9% for the human reviews. Teams that depend on expert critique can now let AI do the first full review pass, and keep a human for the final decision.

You are here: 'OK, we're up by six. We could try a 58 yard field goal attempt that would clinch the game for us if we make it. But if we miss, the other team gets the ball at midfield will over a minute and a half left. Let's do it' facebook.com/share/r/19skZBY…

The Q-Anon fever dream that Donald Trump would heroically intervene to rescue children from the predation of some shadowy Elite cabal looks all the more perverse when you see how Trump handles actual opportunities to do so - like with the Epstein files and the repugnant Vivek ad.

Mike DeWine is an incrediblely popular term-limited moderate Republican Governor in a bright red state. Naturally, the GOP is absolutely fumbling the Senate and Governor races.
Husted has completely collapsed, what the fuck happened

In 2013, I wrote this really puzzled blog post for The Atlantic (which got me a lot of flack). Turns out the collapse was basically just about to start.
The number of people writing dissertations in the humanities has collapses, now the same thing is happening in the social sciences. I'd wager that we will see a similar trend in psychology and other fields before long. Cuts in funding, the tight academic job market, and AI are rapidly changing the university and cratering graduate programs.
